The black mark on the bumper is where my son burnt out trying to get unstuck!

If it was up to me, this guy would never be licensed to drive a car again...period!!! If somebody hit my car, house, fence, etc...I would be upset but civil. If somebody injured or killed my child, their life would be in jeopardy...seriously...I would probably kill the driver. There is no room for that kind of recklessness in a residential area. I seriously hope states pass tough laws that ban licensing of people who do this sort of thing...it is coming!
I totally agree. If one of my kids got injured or killed, I would go nuts. Puting myself in jail for murder after the accident would only hurt my family even more, though. I would not try to kill the criminal, but I would want to.

Driving over 45 in a 25 zone should be a mandatory 5 year revokation. If someone is injured as a result, it sould be criminal charges.

It is a matter of maintaining your composer...I am not sure I would??? If little Jonathan was hurt by this kind of stupidity...I would probably lose it. Just last year a high school kid lost it by my house. He hit the curb by my fence, ran over a guys foot, hit another curb, took out an elderly lady’s mail box and came to rest about 20ft away. He tried to run with four blown out tires, but we, the neighborhood, had the police there in less then two minutes. He had a nice ride to jail. Anyhow, I am looking at trying to find another place in my yard for my son’s swing set, because there are too many stupid people out there. He hit the curb about five feet away from my son’s swing set...stupid, stupid, stupid!!!! There is only a six foot picket fence there to protect the yard. A person shouldn’t have to worry about this kind of idiocy in a residential community.

How about these penalties for excess speeds (double the speed limit or racing) in residential areas?

1st offense: 3-6 months of jail time; 3,000 fine; five year loss of license; forfeiture of automobile
2nd offense: 6-9 months of jail time; 5,000 fine; seven year loss of license; forfeiture of automobile
3rd offense: 2 years of jail time; 10,000 fine; permanent loss of license; forfeiture of automobile

If a bystander is injured, then automatically go to 3rd offense sentencing. If a bystander is killed, automatically sentence as premeditated murder...no exceptions!!! I think this should be the sentencing structure for drunk drivers as well.

you want someone to be sitting in jail for 6 months because they were doubling the speed limit? Is this anywhere or just in residential areas where the limit is 25-35 mph? I can see heavy fines and the loss of a liscense, but jail time for speeding is a bit harsh to me. For a second or third offense, or if anyone is injured, then I think an argument could be made for it. And Murder 1 for a car accident just isn't going to happen. Most states already have a homocide by vehicle statute, and those that don't would surely use a manslughter or lesser murder charge. You kill someone in your vehicle, you're already going to be facing charges (assuming it was anything more than a true accident) Premeditated murder means just that, you planned ahead of time to kill someone. As much as you may think that driving like an a$$ is planning to kill someone, it just isn't... at least not in the eyes of the law. Should you have known of the possible consequences? Sure, that's why you're going to get charged with manslughter or murder 3. That's what they're their for.

i agree with all of that exepct the perminent losse of the lic..that is just stupid IMO all that will lead to is the pearson turning down the wrong path since itl be 3-4-10 times harder to hold a job or goto anykind of school plus some people do stupid things when they are young but they learn in the end to punish the man for things he did a life time ago is just cruel

I understand your points and I know current law extremely well along with its shortcomings, but I am talking strictly about residential areas, houses on either side of the street, kids, cross-walks and residential parks. I could care less if somebody wants to turn himself into a greasy spot somewhere out of town...keep it out of the neighborhoods. Coming home one evening, a jerk in a 2nd gen Camaro was doing about 65-70 down the street by my house, flew past me, and past between a stopped car at the crosswalk and a parked car next to our park. A lady had to quickly pull back her toddler so he didn't get run over by this a$$. It is a good thing she was paying attention. In my mind, that is murder one if he hits the kid...period...it is a crosswalk for kids. I slow down to 15-20 and watch it like a hawk as I go through there. Not that long ago here in the Denver area, somebody was killed while sleeping in their house when a car came through the bedroom. If somebody is racing or driving at insane speeds in residential areas, they do intend to kill whether they take the time to realize it or not. It is blatant disregard for others. It is not an accident. The car becomes a deadly weapon in those circumstances and the penalties should be treated as such (reckless behavior with a deadly weapon). It is unlikely that we will ever enforce these kinds of penalties because we tend to coddle our criminals. Although, the penalties should be as severe as possible. I have no sympathy or compassion for people who do this...if they can never drive again then so be it. Believe me...it is only a matter of time before the state legislatures start cracking down on this, and it won't be just in neighborhoods. I wrote this down as harsh as possible so that people think about it. It is the most reckless behavior with some of the worst possible consequences. There is just no room for it. My God, soon, we'll have to hold up our kids in the house will barriers all around it to keep them safe from morons who can't exercise good judgement.

I am sorry if this sounds extremely harsh, but this is the one thing that makes my blood boil.

u dont have to have compasion just look at the end result...its fine to punish someone to the point that they wont want to do it again but to ruin there entire life isnt the answer all that will do is 9 times out of 10 make another criminal whereas left alone that pearson may not have become a criminal

bt taking someones lic or fining them some rediculous amount they can never pay is just pushing them over to the bad side of the tracks..thats what people have to look at when they make laws and such. also u are pretty much in deep shit already going over double the speed limit so i wouldnt worry about it to much

i just read that..speeding is that last of ur worries for that the crimanls u make with harsh and unjust laws is much much closer to the cause of those fears

Definitely harsh, but I see your point.. although I don't agree with your levels of punishment. I don't have kids but I know I'd go crazy if I lost a child due to something like this.

But around here there are some places that are 15mph .. if I was driving 30mph and received 3-6 months of jail time; 3,000 fine; five year loss of license; forfeiture of automobile ... I'd go apesh!t.

                      Just my thoughts..

...but, by not creating strong enough consequences, there is no deterrent. If consequences were strong and severe, then a rational person would think twice about breaking the law. And, honestly, I have no problem destroying the life of someone who willfully puts children in danger. Life is about choices. If a person make the choice, the person pays the consequence...period.

...residential areas should be set as no tolerance zones...every driver would know about them. Dean80Z28 mentioned someone going ap with regard to the penalty...but if that penalty existed, would most people go 30 in a 15? I think most of us would go 15 or 20 or 25 or 30 or whatever the posted speed said if this kind of punishment was enforced.

I was always respectful of residential areas even as a teenager...it doesn't take that much effort. When I became a parent, I also became extremely agitated when people go too fast with kids playing in their yards. Pretty soon, all of the residential areas will be filled with speed bumps and cameras which are a extremely annoying, but they are the only way to slow people down. When there are little children playing, there is no room for bad judgment. Pretty soon, we will be setting up cameras to trap people...we already have a few set up in the Denver Metro Area. Things are going to get ugly everywhere if people don't get a clue about this, raising the driving age, photo ticketing, satellite monitoring, etc.

...no tolerance means no tolerance... (my 52 year old sister)

She drank way too much. She started drinking and driving. We gave the sheriff's office the when and where to nail her to the wall for drinking and driving. She was convicted of a DUI. Her life went to heck in a handbasket after that. Her alcoholism took a turn for the worse. She ended up in the hospital with kidney failure. Anyhow, she finally got a clue and she is finally turning her life around after her near death experience. Do I feel as though she should get her license back....NO! I do not! ...at least for five years. I love her; she is my sister...but her actions were inexcusable. She needs to feel the consequence for a long time.
