  • Getting gyped on Ebay

I bought this chip on ebay...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWN%3AIT

I was just searching stuff for my car and came up with this chip... They usually run like $200, so why not??? Any ways i get the chip, install it and it doesnt work. I call the makers they walk me through it step by step again... still doesnt work. They tell me the chip is bad. I email the guy who sold it to me and told him what was going on. He got all furious and upset and started to yell at me!! I have taken several electronics classes, and i know my way around computers (computer science major), i know to dicharge myself before touching a chip... Anways, my questions are... Am i wrong for wanting a refund? And should i just bite the bullet, or should i fight it?

I also told him if he had insurance on it... maybe it was broken during shipping???

-- All i expect is for people to be honest... I am | | <- this close to not using ebay anymore. Im so sick of people selling their crap saying, " Well it did work!". I wish people would think with their head and their heart... not their wallet.

honestly bro u SHOULD get ur money back..but u should NOT! stop using ebay u just need to take some precautions

this user i wouldnt have bought anything from..product is marked down to much and he only has 3 feed back

i dont buy from anyone that has less then 70-80 feed back with a 99.8% feed back rating its just how i do buisness on there

most anyone will agree that that is a safe way of looking at ebay

so if u cant get ur money back from this guy take it as a leasson learned and do not buy from someone with such little feedback again

another thing i would do since i have bought a few things from new people is question them hard about the product before i purchase it..if they fumble at all i will not buy it i am just very picky with who gets my money esp since i have been burned on ebay once before

the user did list as-is though so broken working aslong as it looks like the picture u have prety much no "legal" grounds

i would just hound him and leave negative feedback all u can really do sorry that happened to u bro

Yea, usually im more careful... but i saw it with like 20 min left. I guess it got the better of me. Sometimes i forget alot of people are dishonest... i just wish people actually cared about something other then money!

      Added:----------------------------------------------------------------------

And having a good raiting doesnt always help... i bought a deck from somone with over 600+ good ratings, in the 98-99% range... got gyped there too. (my only negative feedback)

Only buying off people who have alot of feedback is smart but if you dont buy off people without any how will anyone get any new sellers gain trust?. I just started selling stuff on ebay i have 2 feedback but that dosent mean the stuff i sell doesnt work or isnt exactly what i say it is. Cant just go on a little number next to there name. Just my way of thinking

The guy should give you a refund thats BS. people like him that make trusting people online so hard

Looks like it came out of his old Mustang. Did you verify the part # with Hypertech?

I know how you feel, i got ripped off about a month ago, trying to buy some clear corners from someone on this forum. I couldnt do much. Having to bite the bullet is never fun.

Yes, i made sure to do my research before i bought it...

                http://lt1f-body.racenet.net/electrical.php

HYP-123322 was made for the 93 lt1 automatic. The chips are different from 94-97, the 93 isnt soldered on.

... Now he is offering to have me send it back so his 'friend' can check it (hes a mechanic i guess), but then i have to pay for shipping, and if it costs money to fix it (90% likely) he isnt going to cover it. So, do i just piss n moan till i get my money back... or let him try to fix it?

So now, my question is... why didnt he do this BEFORE he sold it? But then when i think about it... maybe he did (finding out it was broken and decided to make some money off of his broken crap).

I would not throw more money at it by trying to fix it. It looks especially shady when he is offering to have it fixed, but you pay for it. I would steer clear. B!tch and moan, threaten to report him to ebay, give negative feedback, etc until he gives you your money back. If he doesn't, just cut your losses and get out. Do NOT trust the guy to try and have it fixed. Just MHO.

If he doesn't refund you your money leave a nasty feedback, that will certainly damage his reputation on Ebay.

Well Here's your problem. In the description he states "As is No warranty." This pretty much clears him if it doesen't work. I would never buy something electrical with a disclaimer like that. It's impossible to know if it worked when he took it out or not. Maybe it got damaged during removal or shipping. Who knows? What I would do is check out any replaceable electrical components that it has on it. My brother fixed his ECU by replacing a bad resistor. I buy and sell on ebay but would not purchase something electrical that has no warranty or refund if it's DOA.......Good luck Later

Well if you should be able to get your money back and you dont, well basically this is what you do. Its acutally quiet simple. You create an account with the fake email, name all that crap and you bid like 1000$ for a 50$ piece, and then noone that has a real account will win, and he wont make any money and get put out of business! and leave a message "Dont throw rocks over the fence if you dont know how big the dog is!"

Came up with it a while ago actually, thoguht it would be funny to do it to a girl that ripped me off on a surfboard.

It's not that easy to fake an ebay account. They you either have to have a verifiable email account or a credit card. They do that so people have accountability otherwise people could easily do that or scam people by selling products they don't have. Besides people can cancel bids from someone with no feedback or if they bid outrageous amounts.
