Yup, I agree... Alpine is an acquired taste. To each his own... Pls I would never pay $4,799 for a cd player that is only a tad bit cleaner than my 1998 Sony.

    Sony CDX-C90 (4) 20 bit Burr Brown D/A converters, List Price(1998) $1,200
    Alpine CDA-7990 (3) 24 bit Burr Brown D/A converters, List Price(2004) $4,799

To each his/her own... Just putting up some #'s and facts

Yep, Burr Brown is THE DADDY! They used to come in Nakamichi radios back in 97 and those were the cleanest radios I had ever heard in my life. Unfortunately, Nakamichi was too high at cost much less retail, and they didn't come with ANY features back then. I chose JVC back then, but wised up after the 1998 fiasco and started using Pioneer. No issues with them, so I stuck with them.

Nakamichi was good stuff, that indash 5disc changer was killer. Untill customers got discs suck in there . Very pricey stuff to say the least. I got a great deal on my sony c90's, through sony, so I picked up 2 and haven't looked back since. One of the benefits of working in the car audio sales/installation industry.

          I'm running:

Alpine CDA-7894 Head unit, which conveniently plays MP3/WMA encoded CD's.

Infinity Kappa Component 6 3/4" door speakers
Infinity Kappa 3 Way 6 3/4" sail panel speakers (couldn't find a good 2 way for use as a sub)
Infinity Reference 4" Component speakers in the rear

Have an Alpine MRV-T320 (220 X 1 bridged mono), and am looking for a donor JL Stealthbox for a Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 sub.

I was running an MTX Thunderform and MTX Thunder 2160, but the amp got ripped off and the sub is in my other T/A now.

Overall, the system sounds pretty good I think.
