There is of course absolutely no comparison in the $15,000 bird, and the $45,000 luxury sedan in finish and quality. If that is what you want, buy it. The f-body was always budget muscle. Fit, finish and overall quality were never very good compared to higher end cars. If I could afford one, I'd have one too. BUT ... I like to think I would still keep the Z just for fun. Who knows though, it's not a decision i've actually been faced with.

I sold my 73 Charger in the mid eighties due to a growing family (three yr old and a new born) We decided to buy a four door The charger had been garaged for about a year when I found the mouse nest on the intake. We then sold the Charger This was one of the worst decisions that I have made. I still miss that car even though it had nothing on the WS6 we have now as far as performance but I would still love to get that car back. I sold the charger for 2500. and you cant touch a junker for that now (I went and looked at one this weekend no glass no tires not running trash interior and they wanted 3500 ) If you are dis-satisfied with the Bird by all means sell it but if you like the car I would make every effort to keep it

The new 300C SRT-8 that Chrysler is coming out with soon sounds killer. Price will be high but the write-up in Autoweek sounded great. It'd make one heck of a daily driver but you're probably talking about corvette price territory (although pricing hasn't been determined yet)

That sounds like a lot of money to dump into a daily driver. I am sure it is a nice car and all, but I would never pay that much money for a car that I am going to rack up the miles on and lose my shorts with depreciation. Eventually, you will get bored with it and want something different...ouch, when that happens! There are a lot of low cost and fun daily drivers. I love my Roadmaster. Before I got the Roadmaster, I was looking at 9C1 Caprices for around $2,000-$4,000. That is a lot of car for the cost. Even the '97+ Grand Prix GTPs are dropping in price...fast.

Anyhow, it is your money and your decision. Just make sure it is a good one that fits within your financial goals and parameters.

See, that for me is enough reason to stay away from expensive new cars. Depreciation is a killer! The first time you turn the key, it costs you thousands! After a few years you've lost enough to litteraly pay for an f-body! Ouch! I cannot afford that!

Not only that, but the F-body is a classic. Name a classic Volvo?

You do realize that you own a 2002 WS6 Trans Am correct? What other reason do you need? It's a head turner, it's a blast to drive and it's economically sound considering it's a performance machine! Honestly, if i were in your shoes, i'd get an AWD Eclipse. You could probably find a slightly modified one for real cheap. You'd have everything you needed right there- AWD, it's got a punch to it, they're easy to modify, it's still a 4 banger so if you're not gong crazy and making the turbo run non stop, you'll still get good gas mileage. They even look half decent. You should get a riced out one so that it scares you into loving your Trans Am even more. If i had to drive an Eclipse with 19'' rims, a fart cannon, altezzas and a huge spoiler, i'd probably pull up in front of my house every day, get out, run to my Trans Am in tears, hugging and caressing it all while telling it how much i love it lol. Good luck either way man. I hope everything works out for you.

Jay - please take my advice - don't do it. You WILL regret it - I guarantee it. I had the same thoughts as you - more civilized, more practical, more....you understand. I bought an 02 VW GTI 1.8T - 180HP, leather, heated seats, 17" wheels, etc. This after 3 F-bodies. I ended up trading it back in - taking a 3K butt whoopin 13 months later. I don't care if that T5 has 500 HP - it will still sound like a UPS truck. We all know sound is part of the experience if you are a car lover. Get a beater - you'll thank me later. This is nothing against the Volvo it really is a nice car - but not what one of us is likely to switch to.....happily.

IMHO

Don't do what I did. I turned in my 95 Formula and got a 2001 Firebird. I really miss the power of a V8 now, as the V6 is my daily driver. AND don't let women influence your decision either. I got out voted 2-1 by my wife and Mother in Law.

I had to do something though with the Formula. It was just getting too expensive to keep running, as it kept breaking down about every week. In hindsight, I should have just replaced
everything under the hood and kept it. Instead, now I have an extra car payment to worry about and a car with no balls to drive.

I have also started to think that it would be a bad idea to take myself back out to a 5-year buy. I mean, during the winter, I will not be driving this car... therefore, with no depreciation due to mileage, I will pretty much just be building more equity in it as I pay through the winter. I am more than halfway through the payments... only two years left, and now I have a full-time job. The difficult part is behind me (paying for the car while at school).

Next fall, I will take another look at a Z06... but until then, the Trans Am is going to stay right where it belongs -- in MY posession.

I was reading all these posts in this thread sweating in suspense. I drive a 98 cavalier Z24, lowered with about a grand in the exaust and another 1500 in other performance and appearance mods, not to mention countless hours working on it.Though I love my car I was driving it everyday, getting tired of it in general and getting sick of such stiff suspension(really hard on the back,) and horrible handling in the rain(cant drive it in the snow period.) I never got so sick of it I wanted to buy a new car to replace it but I did buy a 1984 Ford Bronco II as a dailey driver(200 bux ). Since ive been driving my bronco its helped me regain alot of appreciation for my cavalier. You need to look into the future in 5 or 10 years, if you had a volvo you paid 50 grand for, how much more are you going to be paying for in service time and parts to get those sensors replaced and to have your motor or turbo rebuilt...What are you going to do after this winter is gone and summer is back?? Im sure youve hung out with your friends, possibly taken road trips, or just simply been cruising down the road enjoying your car, turning heads and having fun(can you do that in a volvo?). I dont know if youve ever a done burn out but it dosnt seem a burn out in a volvo could be half as much fun as a burn out in a V8, just imagine shifting that mighty volvo into second or third trying to break them lose and all you end up doing is launching the car. I have a bunch more I would like to say but I have to go so I can make room in my garage for my new project car(1980 camaro .) It seems youve already made up your mind but I just wanted to post this to help keep your mind made up, if youve had the thought once youll probably have t again .
