Yahoo news said this morning that this hurricane has already killed a believed 56 people! It does look like it is now targeting the Florida panhandle though. So maybe all the guys down in the lower half of the peninsula will be spared from the brunt of the storm.
I was thinking pretty much the same thing. That's funny, but depressing. It looks like central Florida will be spared this time. It appears all we will see is some outer bands of tropical storm force winds.
Yea I'm glad central Florida is being spared. That's the last thing ya'll need. Unfortunately someone will have deal with it.
I know we didn't face anything like what Floridians faced but we had some damage around Atlanta from Frances. We have a lot of old tall trees here and when it rains a lot, the ground gets soft and they fall even when there isn't a lot of wind. One fell on a car between our house and my daughters school while the guy was driving down the road. Luckily it fell in the back seat and the driver was not even scratched. If Ivan comes this way, it could be a lot worse. Time to go sharpen the chain saw blade.

I actually had to do a double take before I saw what it was. Looks like central Florida will be spared the worst but the panhandle looks to receive a pretty bad blow.
Maybe some good will come from this storm and Fidel Castro will be flung into oblivion!
Its comming right at us in Fort walton/p'cola.... the east band of that thing looks pretty nasty too...Were due for a bad one though...

I've seen some of the amazing technology the government has. I dont understand why we cant stop something like this yet....Theres gotta be some kind of somethign that can disrupt the storm pattern and winds enough for it to die out...

The scale of storms like this is so big that we really have nothing that could even phase them. The amount of energy that they consume makes all of the weaponry we possess insignificant.
Weather modification is not without its' risks. We simply do not know what would happen if we were able to alter this kind of weather. Sadly, enough, these things happen for a reason. They tear stuff up but they also help cool the Earth as well as stirring up ocean currents to bring nutrients to the surface for plankton and such.
We can be thankful that we have the technology to know that they are coming far enough in advance to be able to get out of the way. Years ago, it just showed up and lots of people died.
Now, for what we can do, put you folks on the prayer list and keep you in our thoughts.
yea luckily the AF is probably sending me away from this tomorrow, gotta keep the mission going....so they will get me out tomorrow b4 all the traffic hits...this isn't looking pretty at all....
