    BUT

I would never buy one and here is why:

Parts are way to hard to find, and expensive.
a 1996 LT4 vette is just about as fast, and cheaper to maintain/modify.
The motor was not really all that remarkable, considering it had DOHC and 32 valves. There is alot of technology and complicated parts that really dont make much more power than a stock LS1.

by todays standards, it is over rated.

Yes, but the potential for a 8500 RPM screamer is there without losing much streetability!

While expensive, that engine is just amazing. I have a video of a 1990 ZR1 stroked to a 408 racing a Kenne Bell '03 Cobra. The ZR1 has 550 rwhp, and the Cobra has 605. The ZR1 puts about a fender on him.

Think about a 9 second N/A street car

I just like the sound of it. It's closer to sounding like a Ferrari. Hey I didn't say it was practical.
Strange. I wonder why the 1990 cars are so fast. I just looked at some stats and 1990 cars are a full second faster than 1992.

      1990 : 12.8
      1992 : 13.9

You know I was wondering the same thing. I think the 92 is rated it like 405 or something too. What's up with dat?

Whoever ran a 13.9 in a ZR1 was on some serious drugs.

That was just letting the car idle down the track without a driver.

The special thing about the LT5 engine wasn't so much that it made 405 hp, but that it was engineered and built to run at redline for 24 hours and not break. Try that with any other engine and see what happens...

A local dealer has a ZR-1 in his show room. Looks brand spanking new or at least well kept.

When they came out I read an article they wrote in a magazine with a title going something like this:

A car that you can take to the race track and send your grandma go shopping with.

Sure wouldn't mind owning one, but ...$$$$$
