It's funny, the states that have more liberal laws for carrying concealed weapons have a lower crime rate. The city of Kennesaw here in Georgia passed a law saying that all heads of household must poses a gun. The crime rate dropped by something like 75% the first year after it was passed. The last thing a bad guy wants is for his victim to be armed.

I will do whatever it takes to protect my family. I don't want to be saying oh please don't hurt me. That puts control of the situation in the other persons hands.

        DON'T MESS WITH GRANDMA

Speaking of carrying a gun, here's one for you.

        DON'T MESS WITH GRANDMA

        This is a true story...

An elderly Florida grandma did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her voice, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!"

The four men didn't wait for a second invitation. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then it dawned on her why.

A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing.

He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car-jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed.

If you're going to have a Senior Moment, make it a memorable one!

Ok but dont when someone gets that gun. If I lived in that city Id own a sling shot. Theres no way Im going to have a gun when I have nephews that spend all day on games like counter strike and halo blowing the **** out of each other. truth is that guns are twice more likly to hurt a family member than in intruder. just get an alarm and a dead bolt and move to the suberbes

I have locks on every gun I own except the one I have on me. I have 3 kids.

I have an alarm and a dead bolt and I got robbed last Wednesday. Now I have to fix the broken glass in my wife's van. I wouldn't have shot them unless they had a gun or came at me. But I sure would like to have seen there face when I put that little red dot on their forehead.

P.S. You need to remove the cuss words. This is a family board.

you know when I was 9 I found my dads stash of ammo and his safe key. So you know what I did, I went and opened the safe and pulled out one of his bird guns. I drew it like I saw him do, I opened the breach like I was going to load it but for some reason i didnt, I just tried to fling it shut like I had seen in so many movies. I will almost bet that if that gun had not pinched the ever loving sh#t out of me i WOULD HAVE OPENED IT AGAIN AND LOADED IT. Then what. I would have been like that outher kid I saw that blew his own brains out only because he was to young to know what he was holding. My dad would have cried. My mom would be devistated. It would have ruined my hole familys life. now tell me that shooting some guy that takes a few hundred dollers of stero equipment or a TV is more important than the life of a child that you love, and I will call you ignorant.

I have a digital keypad gun safe. I am the only one with the code. I dont have kids and my wife is not gona even try to touch my guns. But if you dont store properly guns can and will be dangerous. Best thing you can do is teach the children early to be safe with guns, show them what they do and get them to understand what they are for. I belive if you dont show children what it is or what it does and let them into the circle thats when they try to look at stuff when your not looking. I belive everyone should have a gun in their house and to have one you have to go to school to use it. If everyone has a gun crime drops significantly. It is also proven that when more people have guns less people actually get shot. There are always exeptions to any test. That is why you have to take a course in canada, to weed out the idiots. Guns dont kill people, people kill people. More people are killed by knives every year than guns, and even more by cars...

Im going to say a few things about that then Im over the gun thing:
1)you have a digital key pad on your gun safe, how many people can afford that.
                    2) you think kid should learn to use guns early right, just like coluimbine, kids that know how to shoot, the real American.
3)"guns dont kill people" Im pretty sure that its the damn bullet ripping through you flesh that kills you.
                    4) "people kill poeple" so lets put more guns out ther for them to use.

all Im saying is look at britan, you know how many gun related deaths there are a year, less than 10. you know why, there illegal.

Making them illegal doesn't solve anything. Drugs are illegal and they're definitely out there and easy to get. Also, just because the punks at Columbine shot people doesn't mean all kids will do that. I've been around guns for a while and am friends with people that were raised around guns...no such instability in them. Remember, what you hear in the news is not they way it is everywhere. I agree people should be very, very cautious with firearms as Jeff, DeWynter and azkkn are both advocating and showing by example. However, guns don't kill people, as they are only the tool used by the person making the judgement. Whether it is informed or not does not mean it is the gun's fault. Saying it is is like saying its my Z's fault for getting a speeding ticket because its fast. I chose to drive the way I do, the Z doesn't.

Squat13... of all the gun crimes committed int he United States, how many of them are committed with legal, registered guns? How many are committed by illegal guns - either it isn't licensed, or the shooter isn't, or the gun itself is illegal?

The crimes that fall into the latter category would happen anyway, because the situation was illegal in both cases. Make guns illegal all you want to... illegal gun crimes will still happen.

I promise you that legal gun ownership reduces the amount of illegal gun crimes.

"An armed society is a peaceful society." Not sure who said it, but it definitely makes sense. If you are a criminal and you know that when you are aproaching a person for the purpose of mugging them and you know that they might be armed, you might think twice before going ahead with the mugging right? The same can be said for breaking into a house where there might be an armed occupant. That is why Texas has concealed hand gun licenses, is because it is a crime deterrent. As far as kids getting ahold of them, definitely, they should be kept in a locked safe/cabinet/closet, whatever....and the kids should be educated about them. My dad took my brother and I shooting shotguns when we were early in our teens. He taught us to respect them and people around us when we were shooting. He was VERY strict about them, and to this day I have a healthy respect for guns and what they can do to a person.
I also am definitely all for protecting one's home against intruders. That is not to say that I am for shooting a thief in the back who is making off with some of my belongings, but if I were to see a man breaking into my house when my wife (or kids when we have some) are in the house then you can bet that if he didn't stop when I said stop he'd get a bullet in the chest. My family is the most important thing to me, even more important than the life of some low-life who is willing to violate the sanctity of my home because he is too lazy to get a job. You never know if a thief is going to be armed and I am not one who is willing to give them a chance to use whatever weapon they may have. And ya know what? I would be well within my rights to do so. Ya gotta love the Constitution.

                                1) I would say If you can spend $300+ on a gun you can spend at least that much on a electronic/digital safe. If all you have is a hand gun you only need to buy a safe big enough for the gun and ammo. their as cheap as $175.00. I would say if people can find the money for a hobby (eg. Cars, guns, model trains etc.) they can afford a safe.
                                2) Anyone who has seen a violent movie knows enough to shoot a loaded gun
                                3) Someone pulled the trigger and aimed the gun it didnt do it on its own.
                                4) If some one wants to kill another person it dont matter if there is no gun, who cant get a bat or lead pipe or Bow and arrow or a steak knife?
