After calling, I stopped by after work and picked up an envelope of papers.... the original bill of sale , and the Title. Question is, I signed off the title when I sold it, but he never signed it. Can I just apply for a duplicate title or is this one still good? Never seen a situation like this before. At least I have everything that was connected with the sale except the owner's manual. Too bad she can't find that, it was the original one from the first owner. I do still have all the receipts, I never sent them with the car when I sold it. Still..... this all seems too good to be true. Something has to be wrong with the car. I guess I'll know more in the morning.

You dont need to retitle it. It's been your car all along as far as the state cares. I hope it's in good shape still! I wish I could get one of my old cars back for free.

Well, its good that you got both of those items back. The fact that he didn’t sign the title is double good. I believe that all that you have to do, whenever you actually sell the car is just draw a line through his name (if his name is on it at all) and put the new buyers name in place of it. Or, you can go down to the DMV, and explain it the best way that you can, and they can tell you what to do. I think that you can order a duplicate from there as well. If I were you, I would still feel better with some kind of agreement in writing as to the deal that you are making to get the car back. As far as owners manuals, I believe you can get a new one for about $15.00 by calling 1-800-551-4123, Mon.-Fri 8AM-6PM EST.

Definitely get a duplicate title Joe. If the signed title were to ever find itself in the wrong hands they would have themselves a free car.

I'm not exactly sure about Florida but it should be similar to Texas. Here in Texas all you have to do is go down to your local Florida DMV and apply for a duplicate title. You can just tell them the title was lost or destroyed. Here in TX it only costs a grand total of $5.45 to have the Texas DMV issue a duplicate title. I would imagine the Florida DMV would have similar fees.

And if you like, you can even just call the Florida DMV and do everything by mail.

you can almost gaurantee to sell it for 1000 bucks no matter the condition....so even if its rougher than you want to keep....consider it a little short term investing..

Joe, I agree, get a duplicate title. Just claim the old one was detsroyed in the 'Cane. PA will issue you a new one no problem, it only costs a couple of bucks. You definately made out here! I'm jealous.

As long as his name is not on it anywhere, you can use it. If there is any signs of the previous transaction, apply for a lost title like everyone else said. Fix it up fast and move it. The little dweeb has too many problems to bother tracking it down what happened to the car. I would give the chick a little side cash. She probably will need it.

I bought my ta with US registration plate and title and I cant register it on my name in my country because its too old they say. So every time I get stopped by the police I have to tell them that the owner is my cousin or brother in law and he lent me the car, but its been too long the same story and i live in a small town and I have to do something about it.
Any ideas how to get the title in my name? maybe a valid reg plate too

Just got back from the impound lot. I dropped in a battery and it wouldn't turn over. There are some scratches in the paint, it looks like the front jacking point was missed and the lower part of the front fender is cracked. The car is pretty dirty all over too. Driver's seat which was perfect, is now torn. Man.... all the work I put into that car and for it to be this trashy is depressing. Well... not too depressing 'cause I did get paid for it. While not as rough as the first time I got it, I don't know what's wrong with the motor yet, AAA is towing the car here as we speak. All 4 tires are cut (looks like a knife or similar), but at least the wheels are fine. Come to think of it, the scratches could very well be key marks.

It keeps getting more goofy....... Turns out the guy running the towing and impound lot needs a set of C4 Vette wheels that I just happen to have sitting boxed in storage. You already know the rest. Somewhere this is going to bite me. This kind of luck is not something that graces my household of late. Hopefully it's just a starter and the motor isn't seized. I had a little more than the $370 in the wheels, but who cares. There is not out of pocket cash expense so that's a huge plus.

you think I should send the title to someone in the us (illinois) to send it to dvla in my name? is this possibe? what do I you have to send there (proof of address or something)?
