  • up set about massive power loss with SLP loudmouth

i just put a loud mouth on my camaro a little while ago, and removed the cat at the same time. i know that not all mods work good with out other ones to back it up, but we put it on the dyno last night and it made 183 hp. last time when it was stock with factory plugs and opti with 112k on it tossed down 238 hp. i have put in a NEW opti, and new plugs, removed the cat and put on the loud mouth. WHAT do i do now???? what can i do to take advantage of the loudmouth, or should i ditch it?

The loudmouth would not have affected HP readings like that. You have other problems or there was a flaw in the dyno.

That sounds like a considerable loss in HP. I would not blame the LoudMouth. I took a quick dyno to get an idea of what my car is before headers/y-pipe/catco, and without nitrous. 275.7rwhp/294.6rwtq
This was 1 run no cool down, and an alternator putting out 12.2 volts at WOT.

Save yourself some trouble and get the cable from akmcables, and atleast try the free scanning software.

        Check your wires too

i got the cable and no issues that i can see, before or after the run. i wonder if my tranny is slipping? the car runs like a top, and will lay down the rubber from a dead stop like its on ice. if i punch it in second gear it will light em up pretty easy. it is an A-4. i dunno, i am so pi$$ed that i want to sell it and get out of cars all together.

you say you had 275.5 hp at the rear wheels with a stock LT-1? thats like 3% drive train loss. not to doubt you but a 285 hp car with an auto (if you have that) should be right around 238~240 hp at the wheels.

                azkkn -

Are you saying that the car is still fast and you don't feel a difference?

If you don't feel a difference, there probably isn't much of one and the dyno was f-ed up. Trust me, you would feel a 50 HP loss. There is also no friggin way a cat-back takes away 50 HP. Pretty mechanically impossible.

Do pushrods bend in LT1s like they do in LS1s? That might be your culprit........

Pushrods do bend sometimes in LT1's, just most of the time its due to larger Valve Springs and a huge cam. I think its somthing besides that.

you wont loose power with the loudmouth. not at all. other probs like the folks said.

i had it on my compTA.. it was one of the first lt1's to get it... and we have it on the firehawk...which just has bolt ons... no power loss at all. quicker gains in the higher rpms.
