the motor comes stock with a turbo i think at 7 or 8 psi.

it is right around 200 horsepower stock. and the car will be right around 1000 pounds lighter than yours....

goin to a junkyard isnt cutting corners on those cars because a lot of 300zx parts swap over easily (brakes. rear, etc.)

unless someone bought that motor from japan and wrecked the car and didnt buy it back. it cant be from a junkyard its not available in this hemisphere in any stock nissan.

I have a good bit of knowledge about SR swaps into a 240 since I helped my younger brother do one. Now the stock SR20DET has about 200hp stock and is quick but not fast. These engines are available used from Japan and usually have around 30-50,000 miles on them. Now depending on what boltons you are talking about he could be making some serious power. My brothers car has a bigger turbo (T3-T402 I beleive) Topmount turbo Exhaust manifold, Wastegate, BOV, front mount intercooler, larger radiator, Apexi turbo controller, 300zx MAF, infinity LSD rear end, etc and a custom Dyno tune. When we took it to get Dyno tuned (Secret Services' Dynojet) it put down 339 RWHP @ 19 PSI of boost. I've driven it on the low boost setting 275 RWHP @10PSI of boost and the car is insanely fast. There is very little turbo lag and when it kicks in at 3000 RPM or so it slams you back in the seat and runs to redline so fast it'll make your head spin. That car is really a rush to drive. He ran it at the track and with horrible bogging launch he still turned a 12.4. So as you can see depending on the "boltons" he had he could have a car that would walk yours. If he's still on the stock turbo though, especially stock boost, you'll be much faster. Whatever you do don't underestimate the 240s with the big front mount intercoolers, they'll surprise you. If you can find out what exactly he's done to it I can give you a good idea of performance. Later.....

        Eat his lunch

A 240 with a stock sr20det engine isn't going to run 13's, Even with his Wal-mart bolt ons. I had a friend who pulled the same swap in his 240 and I ate his luch every day in my bone stock 97' Z28. That's not to say the sr20 engine isn't a good motor, with the right parts and tuning...and a driver that know what he's doing. As far as your neighbor with the 02' SS, no contest. SS. Your friend would have to do some serious upgrades to get his car close to 13.

He will eat you. With the 2.0 turbo, you're in trouble. And don't forget he can shave off a second by adding a full flowing exhaust system and turning his boost up. Not all that hard on a turbo car. And somebody that drives a 240 isn't a ricer. That is a nice go-fast car, not a civic. Better watch out...

If it's a basic swap with no upgrades he's not going to be much competion for a 4th gen Z28. At 205 or 220hp stock, depending on red top or black top, the Z will walk all over it. The stock Garret T25 is pretty small (would make a great paper weight ) and isn't gonna support alot of power. Swap out the turbo with something bigger and your gonna have the potential for a very fast car. Find out a little info about what is actually done to the car. Without knowing that there's no way to tell if it will be any competion or not. Oh, BTW I had a 90 240sx with the KA24 engine in it (145 hp stocker) and it only ran a 16.4. Don't get me wrong it was a fun car to drive. It handled great but after third gear it had no real power to speak of. Oh and there are, unfortunately, some riced out 240s around . A darn shame if you ask me.

He wouldnt tell me if I asked. This guy keeps things secret so if i asked what it has he would say it was stock. The only mods i know about are from another source. He has the sr20det, cold air intake, 3 in pipes all the way back and a fart can (cocked to the side). I also think he has junk yard suspension and a sound system. I just mentioned the system cause systems make cars fast acording to ricers.

Sounds like he's got a pretty basic swap then. One tell tale sign would be the absence of a front mount intercooler. Any serious mods and he'd have one. Chances are that unless he's spent a few grand on a bigger turbo, all the needed accesories and had it Dyno tuned you'll most likely stomp all over him. I believe the reason that most ricers think they are fast is that they've never been in a car that actually is fast and therefore have nothing to compare it too. A Civic si with a few bolt-ons may seem fast if all you've ever ridden in is your mom's 100HP automatic econobox. Now a 225HP 240 will seem like a rocket compared to the stock 145-150HP model but is still no competion for your Z. If he thinks his car is fast chances are that he's never been in an Corvette, Z28 or some other actually fast car. Oh and about his mods the freeflowing exhaust helps a pretty good bit on a Turbo car. Maybe worth 20HP or so if he has a down pipe no cats/test pipe and a decent mandrel bent catback. The cold air intake is not needed on a turbo car since you're running the intake charge through the turbo and an intercooler before it gets to the engine. All you really need is a normal underhood intake. Anywhooo it sonds like this guy has a pretty basic swap. Check for the Front Mount Intercooler though. It might give you an Idea of what's under the hood. Also you might get him to give away some mods if you tell him that you aren't going to waste your gas racing a stock 205 HP car . Who knows it might just work. You could just get him to meet you at the drag strip and find out for sure. Good luck and let us know if you decide to race him.

I havent seen him with the hood popped. One of my friends has and they said that the engine was scratched up really bad and it looks like its already been ran through the wringer. My friend was joking about his tiny intercooler so I guess that means he has one. He said that he thought it was the stock one but i dont know if they came with one or not. I have also heard that this car is really fast but the people that told me that drive econobox's with fartcans.
Does anybody know if sr20det's came with tiny stock intercoolers?

The SR20DET comes with a small sidemount intercooler which is not visible from outside the car. If he's using this he's not running very much boost. Almost definately stock turbo too. Should be an easy mark. I don't think scratches on the valve cover mean much of anytning. My brother's engine had a few scratches on the valve cover so he got it powdercoated. The engines are imported and are usually low miles (30-50,000) and are in good condition. Oh and to most ricers a 240 w/ a stock SR20DET would be really fast compared to thier cars. I wonder what they'd think if they rode in your Z, hmmmmmmm?
