It will yield enough power to overpower the tires, giving you a horrible ET considering how much you spent. Then you get a more appropriate tire and suspension mods, then the clutches in the transmission fry. You spend another $2500 on a trans rebuild and the first time it hooks, the rear end breaks.

My advice is to consider every single upgrade you plan on doing to reach a finished goal. Look at whatever parts would benefit both a stock car and a modified one and put off your engine build up until the rest of the car is built to take it. The engine work that you are considering should be one of the final stages and not the first. But hey, that's merely an opinion based on how many times we've seen it in the past.

If all you want is 12s, ported factory heads and cam will get you there fairly inexpensively. Heck, with the right attention to details, just heads and external bolt ons will put you there.

Joe is right. I've been there. Im still there really. Ive got the 383 LT4 and it makes serious power for a street car, but I had to swap my A4 out, after I blew it up, in favor of a T56 (and thats not the best decision if all you want is E.T.'s) just so that I wouldnt have to rebuild the tranny once a year. That cost me about 2 grand with the stage 3 clutch. Then, I couldnt hook it and I was running a naturally aspirated 13.0 and a juiced 12.5. That sucks when you have enough power for 12.5's and low 11's on the spray, so I had to upgrade to a 12 bolt to run the slicks I needed. That cost me another 1400 and I only got off that cheap because I built my own. Then another 8 or 9 hundred in wheels and tires and......I got it into the high 11's, but I still have traction issues (I think I need more practice). After all that, I wiped out a bearing in the motor and had to rebuild ..... So, yes, it is more than just adding power to make low E.T.'s. If all you want is high trap speeds, well, thats a bit easier.....
