  • Turkey day drive.. and ?'s

So there I was... (I love that line) anyways, driving 95 north, got off to get some gas, got back on the ramp, I was on it a little bit, getting up to the flow of traffic and all. A few miles down the road, gauges light up, power steering goes, and car stumbles, carefully and I don't really know how, I get it over to the shoulder, swear a whole bunch, and turn the flashers on. Turned off the car, the temp gauge is through almost pegged. Get out, pop the hood, antifreeze is everywhere, and i mean everywhere. My serpentine belt is off, still in one piece some how. So after reaching absolutely no one on my cell phone, because it's a dead area, some guy in the Navy, Mike B (he used to be on this board a few years ago apparently, and knows ken), stopped to help. So i got some antifreeze, some tools, because all of mine were stolen a few months ago. We fixed it, it ran good.
It got me to NY and back.

So I noticed the cables from the battery going in front of the fan shroud were missing insulation where the belt hit. The positive and the ground. Does anyone know what the part #'s for the cables are?

What would cause my belt to come off for no reason?

Now it at idle it gets to 210 degrees fairly quick. Takes a while to cool down when driving around town.

Anything I should check for or be cautious about now? I did put a brand new belt on, since the old one had a 1/4 piece missing from it in one spot.

I'm not quite sure how the LS1's cooling sytem works but on LT1's you have to bleed the system using the two bleeder screws and if you get an air bubble in it you may notice it heating up quicker. If I remeber my brother bled his by just leaving the cap off with the car running and adding coolant as needed until all the air was out.

Good to see you made it back (Mike here). Have you check the fluid levels since we put it in. Remember it was dark so you may need to add more into it. Was that your cables cut that we saw? After I got to my parents house after hearing your car I had to get mine out an drive it 300 miles in the weekend then back in storage it when. Yes Ken I am still around, just donot drive the bird as much it is sitting under a car cover out near you in Hartwood. After 4000 in body work (hit twice in less then a month) decide to park it an get a beater. going to be moving back up that way in the spring so I will need to get some zaino an make it look good again.

Mike, good to see you came back on the board like you said you would! I did check the levels before I drove back down to ft bragg, added just a little bit more. By the way, I still owe you the $10, you'll have to let me know so I can send it to you.

Do not worry about the 10. Question why did you drop onto 64 from 295 ? If you had gone up another 5 miles or so would have dropped you right onto 95 pass Richmond instead of having to deal with the city. how long did it take you to get back down? I left batlimore at 6 am an got to my house in jacksonvile florida at 10 pm. S C traffic was a night mare.

I had a similar problem when I blew a hose. The temp would rise to 210 quickly. Someone told me to bleed it, haven't had any problems since.

I took 64 to avoid dc and baltimore altogether.
