  • Where are the speedo drive and driven gears?

I need to recalibrate my 4L60 for my 3.73 gears. I was just wondering where the drive and driven gears are located on the 4L60 and what do I need to do to get to them and replace them? I know that the drive gear is located around the tailshaft of the tranny. Do I just need to take the driveshaft off to get to it or is there more to it. I have no idea where the driven gear is located on the tranny. anybodies help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the gear is located on the tailshaft (output shaft) housing. You will just need to remove the one bolt holding on the driven gear housing and then remove the spring clip that holds the speedo drive gear to the output shaft. With a 15 tooth drive gear and a 26" tire, you will want to use the purple 43 tooth drive gear. Part#1362196.

What side of the housing is the driven gear located on? Will I have to take the driveshaft off to get to the speedo drive gear on the output shaft? Also how much of a difference would a 44 tooth driven gear and a 43 tooth driven gear make in the speedometer because knightfire says to use a 44 tooth.

        44 tooth would be for a ~25.5" - 25.9" tire. 43 tooth is for a ~26" - 26.6" tire.

Just depends on what size tire you have on the rear. Here is a tire diameter calculator:http://murray.faithweb.com/formulas.htm#find_rear
