  • Topped my Z out tonight

I have always wondered what it would do, so i was goin 60 and stomped it and the next thing I knew 100...110.....120.....130.limiter. It may not seem like much but its plenty fast for me and I am amazed because the car is stock. (other than blowmasters)

When did your limiter hit. I have had it around 153 and got scared. I'm sure it can go further. I once heard it was around 162 stock? It sounds wrong since I never got near it. The hypertech helps, but...

Do you know what RPM you were at?
130 is the approximate top speed in 3rd gear. When my plugs were pretty shot, I tried to take it high, and it had a "fake" speed/rev limiter at about that speed because it would not get out of 3rd gear. The top speed should be between 150 and 160 if you were able to top it out in 4th.

With only the Spintech catback on my 97 TA, I was able to squeeze about 158 out of it. Takes a few miles to go from 145 to 158. We had the limiter deleted with a HPP3. The car felt pretty solid at those speeds.....just noisy. I just don't like the slight oversteer that our f-bodies have at those speeds.

i have only had my 6spd up to 135, but the weather outside isnt the best for topo speed runs now. I was wondering what the limiter was but i only had mine for 1 month before it snowed And oversteer rules! Just not over 100mph haha

The factory speed limiter setting is determined by the tires your car was equipped with when it left the factory. If your car came with the Z-rated tires (RPO QLC), the speed limit field in the PCM is entered as "255" (limit of 8-bit binary field). If it did not get the Z-rated tires, the limiter is set between 112-117mph, depending on the year of the car.

I've gotten mine up to over 150 but ran out of road. real fast! Big "highway ends in 1/4 mile, with a turn for that last 1/4! This was a year and a half ago. Everyonce in a while i'll get a bug in me and bring it to 130.

Not really sure on my 99 WS6. Never had too much oportunity to get it that high (tickets and worn tires). i go to fast-autos.net though and they have every fast car you can think of and there times. It said the 99 WS6 (anniversary) will go 160 mph. On a side note it appears the 05 GTO's will have more power than the F-bodies. (400 HP with 4.9 0-60)
