Stock to stock how can the ls1 produce 65hp more than an lt1. I dont think so. Im starting to feel like an lt1 outcast here. Yes the ls1 is faster, more powerful but not by much. But lets not forget that the lt1 is still a very good engine as well.

You are in denial. The "non" Ram Air LT1 makes about 305 at the crank. Of the dozens of LS1 f-bodies that I have personally seen dynoed for a baseline bone stock dyno run, most of them dynoed in the 310-315 RWHP range. Assuming a 14.5% drivetrain loss through the M6 and stock 10-bolt, that is 362-368 HP at the crank. LS1 F-bodies were substantially underrated from GM to protect the sales of the C5. Don't be fooled by factory ratings. Take it upon yourself to find the real facts.

Assuming the average LS1 crank HP of 365, that would be 365-305=60 HP. I put the 60-65 because there a bunch of factory freak LS1's that are puttting down a little more than 315 RWHP bone stock paper filter and all. Especially the 01-02's that received the LS6 intake from the factory.

No one said the LT1 wasn't a good motor. The LS1 is just better. Much better.

Actually, I am sort of torn on the subject. Some of the lines I like, some I don't. I prefer the look of the 93-97 Firebirds to the 98 and later. I do kinda like the 98 and later T/As but only with the ram air hood. I also tend to like the 93-97 Camaro equally as well as the 98 and later. Something about the front fender lines of the early 4th generation seem more sleek. The 98 and later T/As definately have a higher front fender arch and without the ram air hood, I don't care for it as much. The hood seems to balance it out. I guess I can say that I like them all, but prefer certain years.

I do happen to like the exhaust sound of an LT-1 a little better than an LS1. too bad the LT-1 isn't an aluminum block and with better heads ala LT-4.

The other reason I like my LT-1 better.........it's paid for.

I say just find the car that seems to be the best value, unless you really prefer the look of one year over another. If you can find a low-mileage LS1 that seems to be well cared for in your range, then go for it. If you're having a problem finding that but you can find a 30,000 mile like-new LT1 for 10k or under, then go with that. I think it'll depend on what you can find. If you're pantient and you take your time to look around, I'm sure you'll find that one car you can't live without.
