  • Terrible Turning Radius

These cars have got the worst turning radius. I was wondering if there was anything to make it better. Just out of curiousity... I have never driven a car where I have to reverse twice just to get it facing the opposite way on a side street. Even in parking lots I'll have to reverse twice cause of it. (Not always.) Anybody else notice this??

there is one way....... turn the wheel hard and punch it for power induced oversteer.

Just kidding. Well, maybe not totally kidding but it works if you are very well practiced.

LOL, yeah, we definitely have the worst turning radius ever. I want to say about a month ago or so, a buddy of mine was riding in my car with me. He used to own this POS grand am that i always jokingly made fun of him for (now owns new monte carlo ss), so every chance he gets, he takes a shot at my car. So basically, right after he got his new car, he took me for a ride and everything...we go back to his house to get my car, as i was driving that night, and I took a wrong turn and wound up on a dead end street. So immediately he started making fun of me on how i was going to have to do a 5 point turn rather than a 3 for a side street. He made a couple more little cracks, said at least his car can turn and blah blah blah, so i figured that i needed to shut him up. So i thought, rear wheel drive posi + wet and slick ground + no parked cars = a quick half donut. I came to a complete stop, cut the wheel, and before he even knew what i was going to do, we had already spun 180 degrees (maybe more like 195 ), and i was fishtailing in to the right direction. I just looked at him and said "I bet your car can do that one too"....it pretty much shut him up .

worse ever period, my dad's 1500 ram can turn better than my bird ...my brother cracks at me cuz I can't even bust a U in intersections without haven't to back it up...LOL. But hey, whatever...next time I just introduce more throttle and kick it out a lil...

No, the 85-93 Mustang is the worst. The car wasn't designed for very wide tires. In 1985 the Mustang got 15X7 wheels. To keep them from scrubbing the inner fender, Ford put little plastic clips on the rack and pinion to stop them from turning as far as they did. You get used to using your right foot to make U turns. I remember one time I started making a turn and realized I couldn't clear the curb going the other way. A quick burp of the throttle fixed the problem.

YEAH! I thought i was having a problem with my car! I first noticed it when i drove my 88 Formula (for the three days that it actually ran....well actually the two and a half days) and then again with the Trans Am. My 86 Monte Carlo had an awesome turning radius and then everyone was telling me how this car would be better. Now it's freakin impossible for me to pull into parking spaces and stuff. People watch my car when i pull into parking lots and i feel like a schmuck when it gotta back out of spots and re-adjust like 50 times.

Come to think of it, my Crew Cab Dually had the worst turning radius ever. It reminded me of a small Greyhound bus. I got used to not even trying to get into some areas. Once you got near your destination, you found the most deserted area that you could find, parked it and walked the rest of the way. There was no way of pulling into certain parking lots. Definately something for a rural area.

I remember using my right foot to make a U-turn in an intersection once while driving my old 88 Iroc. I gave the people at the stop signs quite a show as I spun her around!

My preferred method as well. I had to relearn doing this after the LCA and SFC install though. The car wanted to go straight and not let the rear end go.

Ummm, I mostly agree lol. Yeah, the turning sucks, but I've driven worse, believe me. I'm with Jeff, the 85-93 mudstain's were worse. Can't say I've ever really had to do a 5-point U-turn though, and I've wheeled her in some tight spots lol. And no, I didn't light the tires either...at least, not yet. But, it could be worse...drive a semi or a bus lol.

I remember when the first couple of years my car was new it turned pretty good but now with my wider 17" wheels and wider tires it doesnt seem as good.

My turning radius is awesome! Iguess its cuz of haveing the 6'er though. I think the worst i ever drove was a mid to late 90's dodge avenger with the 6 in it. horrible!!

Now my turning radius is awesome so i dont have to do the crazy fishtail thing, but i try anyways and there is just not quite enough power to break her loose. No Fun for Frank!!
