  • Installed the SLP short-throw

Now that is how the car is supposed to feel. I love this thing!!!!! Nice, crisp feel, quick shifts, fairly easy install...I LOVE IT!! lol I know, I know, no caps, but come on...how can instantly improved shifts not be on the top of your to-do list? Not sure how you guys feel about the SLP short-throw, but I'm in love . Thanks a whole bunch Craig!!

I know what you mean. Didn't install the SLP, but the Pro 5.0. Night and day difference. You gotta get used to not having to go outta your way to get it into third. Just push it up, pops right in. Def. a must have for all these cars. Those stockers are just super sloppy.

Definitely a big difference. Thought about the Hurst, looked at the Pro 5.0, but the SLP was only $100. Hard to beat that price . Third is defnitely a lot easier...heck, all the gears are a lot easier lol.

I ended up getting the Hurst because of the "positive stops" it incorporates. I can slam that shifter as hard as I can and it wont hurt the transmission. There are 2 adjustable bolts that you can turn in or out on the front and the back that the shifter stick hits to stop it dead. It is impossible to push the shifter too far and cause damage. I'd like to get a Lou's short stick for it next.

You're completely right. With the Hurst shifter (the stock Hurst shifter) in my WS6, I was shifting so hard and fast that I was blasting right through 3rd gear... the transmission went into "never-never land"... the car acted like it was in neutral, but the shifter was firmly stuck in the 3rd position, the clutch was out... it took me a while to figure it out, but eventually, I had to manually rip the shifter out of gear to return it to neutral before I could re-position it in gear...

...an aftermarket shifter is a 100% MUST if you drive hard, and the stops are a good idea.

Can't say I've ever had that problem. I did have a situation once where I jumped hard into 3rd and the car felt like I only left off the clutch partially, but I think that could have been the clutch sticking after riding it for 30-45 min. in traffic doing 5mph at best. The only reason I dread the T-56...rush hour trafic...ugh!!!

Anyways, gotta get ready for work and drive it again...oh darn lol

I've been wondering what this Lou's short stick does. Is it just a shorter stick as the name implies? I know it's bent slightly, i'm fuessing for better positioning?

About how high does the bottom of the knob sit above the top of the console with the short-stick?

I don't think you would go wrong with either one. But I'm old school so it's Hurst for me. Beside Pro 5.0 is a company that got it's start from making Ford 5.0 Mustang parts. Hence the name. Enough said. LOL

Of course, I'm gonna say the Pro 5.0 is better, but they're probably about equal.

They're all good, but if you're on a budget, the SLP is hard to beat. You can also get the Hurst unit that came in the SS and Firehawk for the same price. Check out SLP's website for it.

DO NOT get that Hurst unit... I'm fairly sure that's the same Hurst unit that came stock on my WS6.

Scroll up to see some of the problems I had with it.
