Everything Joe1320 said. Stock vs. Stock...LS1 will always be a better motor hands down. The gears help the LT1 out of the hole, but the upper end of LS1's is a force to be reckoned with. I'll never forget the first time i experienced itblack 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

A stock LT1 with a 3:73 would take a stock LS1 with a stock 2:73 or even with a 3:23 off the line, but the LS1 would start to pull after 2nd gear.Hercules

It's my understanding that an LS1 with 2.73 gears is in a major "dead zone" at that mph... This is going to shock everyone, but I am going to say the LT1 is going to get a big advantage right off the bat... the question is how fast will the race go up to? The faster you go, the better the LS1 is going to do.Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.
Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

The numerically higher gear ratio will help the LT1 take advantage of the increased torque multiplication, but it is still not enough to overcome the 55-60+ HP difference.
LS1 all the way. Quit hatin'!
