... I'm a big fan of the new Chevy Cobalt SS.

205 HP, 200 TQ... out of a supercharged ECOTEC 2.2L DOHC I-4

The car will run mid-to-low 14s in the quarter, it only weighs about 2800 lbs, and the interior is very nicely equipped. Leather seats, with inserts that match the body color, fancy gauges, even a boost gauge! ...

That's all well and good, but what knocked my socks off about this car, is that it runs through a slalom course FASTER than the C6 Corvette Z51!!!!!! That is some major-league performance out of this pint-sized, overachieving economy car. With a sticker price of $21K... it's pretty hard to complain (except about that ugly rear wing.)

I agre with you 100 percent i like this car too even with the wing although i have to admit i dont think even the wing is that bad ive seen worse (Dodge Neon SRT4). I actually played with the idea of dropping my 2 cars and getting a one snice its has the best features of each of mine decent gas mileage and handleing and decent power. Not sure im ready to give up the v8 yet though but if they have a good selection of aftermarket parts i might just do it... any word on that yet?

I has to do with the physical size of the car. It's shorter and narrower, so it slips between the cones easier. A bigger margin for error. I was able to do that with my rice burner back in college on a course set up for a driving challenge. They had is set up for a larger car, I drove the course and clocked a good time. It talking with the guys running it, they later let me take my own car on the course and I carved everyone's lunch. Yes it was a good handler, but being much smaller than the intended car, it slipped though like butter, 2 seconds quicker than the previous record. No doubt it's fun, but not exactly a true measure of handling prowess on the street or track. I would get my clock cleaned on an open road course by the same cars I could beat on the closed cone course.

I do agree that it looks pretty good in the TV ads. I'll have to see it in person before I judge. It would be more fun of a daily driver than my ho-hum Accord.

As with all forced induction cars... a nice pulley swap should be a very cheap and easy mod with BIG horsepower gains.

I would imagine this thing could be into the mid-13s without much work at all.

I gotta say I can see you points, but consider this....

I could drive a go-cart around every day that would smoke everyones car here. Id that cool? Is it cool to drive a car that is so small, and so light, and so cheap it can handle well?? Does that make for a "good" car?

I say not. I say a car has to have some size to it before it even qualifies as possibly being cool. F-bodys are not sport-compact cars. Our cars are real street machines that have actual size and presence.

If your goal is to ride around in a tiny box, go for it. I prefer my ride to have a little meat.

No big deal... that's like a Cobalt SS driver saying, "F-Bodies are only faster because they have 4 more cylinders!!!!"... the car is small, and that's how it's built.

Run whatch'ya brung!!!! If it's going to out manuever a C6 Z51, then it's worthy of some serious respect, no matter how it accomplishes that...
