Jay, You know the story of sacrifice I had to make when my son was born. You are correct in everything that you've said so far. It does take guts and a slight swallowing of the pride to hand over your keys to a new owner. It sounds like you know what you're doing and it's the right decision for you at the moment. Heck, let me give you a rundown of a few of the cars that tore me up to get rid of........ 57 Belair, black laquer 396 4 speed and a 9inch rear. 67 RS/SS Camaro 396, 4 speed 4:10s. 71 Toyota ST full tube frame 468ci, 4 speed, dana rear 9.30s @148 on street rubber. 79 TransAm 455 with nitrous, 79 Vette 370 HP L82 4 speed 4:10s.... the 40th anniversary Vette roadster, the ZR-1..... and on and on. As I aged, I let the memories of what I had stay exactly that. Memories. Now I have trained myself to go onward and create new memories. All I'm saying is that you're doing the right thing, when your situation changes you'll be back into something equally if not more satisfying. Heck, right now my daily driver is a (with head dropped)..... a 96 Honda Accord. I put all my job required driving on that so as not to tear up my good stuff. I just bought the car in August and already put 20K miles on it.

You got to look into the future and not the "now". Now it would be great to keep the car, have the fun with it and love it like you do. But will your future plans let you? Financial responsibilities in my opinion outweigh the car. You have plans to get a vette. Wouldn't the wait be worth it? Whenever I am stuck with a dilema, I make a chart, full of positives and negatives and whatever side seems more practical after listing goods and bads of all the issues, you see the whole picture. Ie: payments, insurance, extra cash, rent, job, etc...

You will regret selling that car really bad when spring rolls around, and it's 75 degrees and sunny, and you're driving a cavvy with a hard top and no balls.

Jay, you might not like this idea, but get an LT-1 f-body or something. Hell, you could probably find a 98 or 99 for like 8 or 9 grand. You could buy it straight up or have cheap payment. There was a 98 SS out your way that I looked at for $8000 (72000 miles ). I was going to take it, but it sold so quick, he said it sold the day they listed it. I drove over an hour to see that (They didn't answer phones). They're out there man. At least with that much cash in hand you know you can always go pick up an f-body again if you get the itch. Don't leave the game, we still gotta run it this spring!! Gotta show you what my LT-1 can do

For the love of God!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly why I have to get rid of this car NOW before it depreciates to the value of a used Cavalier... holy crap...

hehe, that car was so far under bb it was sic. That's why the guy didn't answer the phone, he said the phones have been off the hook since they listed it. Sold same day, and the day I went the guy was scheduled to come get it. That car was a steal.

Now I know it's winter, but the resale values on these cars have been going down the crapper. I did a search via the autotrader today and found a lot of cheap 1998-2002 Trans am's/Formula's. Some people are still asking big money, but they have had the cars listed for a long time. I was thinking of selling my Formula and buying a newer T/A or Vette, but mine isn't worth much and it only has 54k miles on it. I think I'll just buy another rental property instead of a car.
Good Luck with what ever you decide..

                        2002 V6 Firebird (wifes)

I'm puting my money into rental properties as well. I cannot afford to buy a $25,000 car just to sell it in 5 years for $15,000. That's a $10,000 hit!!

I bought my 94 for $7500. I really can't imagine it ever selling for less than $6,000 The worst case scinareo is I lose $1500 bucks. that I can afford! I just dont have Ten Grand to burn on a newer car!!

so, that is why I stick with a LT1 car. Until I'm crazy rich I need to keep my belt tight.
