Depends how far he plans to take the engine power-wise.... The MAC's are a 1-5/8" primary. Good for a "bolt-on" engine. But once you go to a good heads/cam setup, the 1-3/4" primaries in the AS&M's and most of the "long tube" header designs will support the engine better. The AS&M's are probably the best "non LT's" out there for the LT1, and I've seen a couple dyno tests where the AS&M's have outperformed LT's.

          There's an AS&M website:

          AS&M

Pricey.... but I got mine "used" for $175

Check our sponsors for pricing and availability. A couple of reliable sources:

          AS&M's "on the engine":

How hard is it to get to the spark plugs with those?

              WOW!!

1459.00 dollars for headers and a y pipe!? I don't think I want to spend this kind of cash.

I really only have 1k for this next group of mods.

I don't know how I am going to feel if I drop even 760 on just the headers right now...

am I an idiot for thinking this is a lot of money?

I'd go with CAI, gears, and as many suspension mods as you have money for... LCA, panhard rod, subframe connectors, STB, etc... Then when you get your next chunk of money, you can do heads, cam, headers/y-pipe, etc...

On a completely unrelated note, I've got SLP bolt on subframe coonectors for sale! See my post in the for sale section

The AS&M's are $750. They come with a Y-pipe that can be welded to your stock cat. The $1,459 setup is for the headers PLUS a complete new dual-cat Y-pipe, WITH the two cats. You don't need that. That's something you might consider in the future when you are up around 750HP.

RK Sport sells a "clone" of the AS&M's for less $$$

Rk sport has listed a set of coated headers for 450. This price includes the y-pipe. They are listed as off-road only, does this mean that there is no place to plug in my 02 sensors?

Also they are 1 3/4 inch diameter. Is this the proper size I am looking for?

If this is in fact the proper headers, I would be able to do.....

                    3.73 gears

                    headers and y-pipe

How do you think this will help me at the track?

By the way, I am getting 11'' rear rims and tires, so I should have better grip than when I was running 14.30's all the time.

Thanks guys you are all very helpful as always.

In regards to installing headers on your driveway, Be prepared for the biggest headach, its a nightmare the first time because we all know the engineers who designed F-body's made it close to impossible to install headers and just about evrything else....Just Be PATIENT!! ......im not sure which of the two headers are a better bang for the $$$ but i can also suggest buying a real good set of gaskets for headers to avoid replacing a blown out gasket.

Has anyone seen these intakes on e-bay?

                          http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634

Is this junk? I always heard that using aluminum was a bad idea because it would keep the heat in the intake tube due to the surface temperature of the metal.

Yup....that's pretty much junk. What's the point of a cold air intake when all you're doing is sucking in hot air from the engine bay

A good CAI goes down alot further, and it has a metal plate just above the air filter. That metal plate blocks off the air filter from the engine bay and doesn't allow hot engine air to be sucked through your cold air intake

Anyone know what kind of power gains you'd get from just a CAI and cat-back? I keep seeing "Get 15 horsepower from our CAI", and that can't be possible. Can it?

I would imagine from a good cai you could see 10-15 hp, and maybe 15-20 from a good catback.

Factor in a drivetrain loss, and i would guess we would realistically see about
                                18-25 to the wheels.

I'm no expert though, that's pretty much the numbers that i have off the top of my head.
