  • dead at 143mph!!!!

A guy I know that lives around me just bought a 2002 ws6 this last summer. A beautiful car, 6sp, corsa exhaust, the works. 2 weeks ago he was partying with a couple friends of his. He had his buddy up front and their girlfriends in the back. They were on a back road doing over 140mph in the middle of the night when someone pulled out in front of him. I guess he slammed on the brakes and turned the wheel(bad combination) and the back end came out. Anyway to make a long story short the 2 girls in the back were ejected from the car killing them and his buddy in the passenger seat is in critical condition and they dont expect him to survive. The driver is in critical but stable condition. The cops did there investigation and judging by the skid marks they calculate that he was doing 143 when he started to slide. Its a shame. Id just figure Id remind everyone to just be safe out there. This guy has to live with the rest of his life knowing he killed those 2 girls and maybe his friend.

With ABS not a good idea to jerk the wheel, what kind of skidmarks did it leave if the ABS was working correctly?

Mark B, you said it right. I guess when they jerked the wheel and the back end came out thats were the marks started. No one really knows how fast he was going before he hit the brakes.

see guys, ive been preaching that for years...

"oh..we were a lonely back road doing 140..no prob"..

                  bs...........

why do you think roads have speed limits? more important...non interstate roads... if you are doing 45mph in a 25mph zone... the same thing can happen...somebody can pull out in front of you before you have time to stop..thats all calulated into the speed limit for that road.......

im very sorry that happend. especially for the two young ladies whos life was snuffed out by stupidity.

Thats why when people first buy these car, they should have to go through some type of class in self control, because I am guilty of finding out how fast my car goes on a public road, but i dont know if the guy ever owned a car with as much power as an f-body. It takes lots of self control when you own one of these cars, especially when your younger. I know when i first got my car i went out on the street cruising around trying to find street races. But i takes a while to realize that these cars are way too powerful to play around with on the street. In many cases these cars are like loaded guns, you have to respect them and be responsible with them or they will take you or someone that you love away. Its sooo unfortunate that the guy didnt own the car long enough to learn that.

Sorry officer, im not speeding... Im qualifying

I'm guilty of doing 145 with 3 other people in the car

Althought doing it on a backrod is something I'm not dense enough to try... this was on a flat stretch of US-131 highway between Grand Rapids and Cadillac................... nobody else around, broad daylight... cars going the other way were blocked by trees in the divided median, guard rails on both sides of the two lanes.

The only thing that could have happened there was a blowout, or an animal.........

...when I hit 145, I thought to myself... "My God..." and slowed right back down.

I think everyone is guilty of it to a point. Myself included. I saw 155 on rt 12 in DE but we blocked off the road for 2 miles when I did it and I have seen over 100 easily on interstates. If you dont you could cause an accident for going to slow! But on a back road, and dont quote me on it because Im not 100% sure but probably drunk at 2 in the morning! And it was in a wooded area and over here there are so many deer and animals that cross the roads! Im a volunteer firefighter over here and thats the type of stuff we see here. People just dont get it. If you dont respect it , it'll kill ya quick. I love my car and the power that it has and do open it up from time to time but that just aint right. They should take some sort of class before they buy these things.

That's too bad. I am also of the opinion that people should have to take a class to be able to drive these cars.
