Has anyone out there ever swapped a Auto trans for a 6-speed on a LS1? Just asking for helpful advise. I have a 2001 SS and would like to be able to have just a little more fun with it.

Be expected to pay over $3,000.00 for parts and labor if you're going to have it professionally done. The transmission alone will cost you $1,500.00 - $2,300.00 depending on where you get it. I got mine from a junkyard.Originally posted by BoonHas anyone out there ever swapped a Auto trans for a 6-speed on a LS1?
My conversion kit cost me $1,750.00 with shipping. It came with pedals, console piece, master cylinder, transmission, shifter, knob, shift boot, etc etc. It also came with the flywheel but it had to be resurfaced. I didn't bother with it and got a new one instead because resurfaced flywheels tend to cause problems.
I got my kit at www.lambertsalvage.com off a '97 Trans Am. You also need to get a wiring harness which is around $300.00, or your reverse lights wont engage.
Also, stay away from Ebay since they only sell the cores, not the complete kit, but sometimes you'll get lucky and find a kit. If you get piece by piece its gonna get really pricey, its not worth it.
This is what it cost me to get mine done:
SPEC Stage II Clutch #SC422 - $479.99
SPEC Billet Steel Flywheel #SC855 - $289.95
Wiring Harness - $300.00
Labor - $700.00
Conversion Kit - $1,650.00
Sales Tax (8.5%) - $160.98
Total - $3,580.96
I also purchased the SLP Stage 1 Suspension Kit for $816.95 which comes to a grand total of $4,397.91

When I converted from the T56 to the TH400, I sold my T56 as a conversion package. For $2,300 included:
-McLeod Street Twin, steel flywheel
-complete clutch hydraulics, modified for the Street Twin
-bell housing
-ballistic nylon bellhousing blanket
-T56
-Pro 5.0 shifter
-skip shift eliminator.
Was supposed to include swapping my pedals for his, but he never got around to doing the swap when I was already to finish up, so I just removed the clutch pedal and had a new tab welded on the brake pedal for a wider rubber cover. Excluded console, because I kept mine and put a B&M Pro-Ratchet in it.Fred

Wow it almost doesn't seem worth it. Hopefully I'll have some money saved up when I get back to the states. If so I'll probably go ahead and get it done. Thanks for all your help.Hank Boonstra

Well I was in need of a transmission anyway so the difference wasn't that much.Originally posted by BoonWow it almost doesn't seem worth it.
