  • Trans Am vs Mustang....who will win this race??

    My buddy just bought a 1994 Mustang GT...5.0(200,000miles), 5 speed, cai, exhaust...not sure what else, but it runs really good. He put MT drag radials on yesterday. My car is a 1994 TA, LT1(127,000miles), M6, Flowmaster cat back, SLP CAI, new SLP clutch, Hurst shifter with Lou's short stick. I have Nitto extreme performance 450 nt's on my car(probably won't hook at the track). Anyway, My best run before the new clutch, tires, CAI, and short stick was a 13.73 @ 100. I figure he's gonna get me just because of the tires...what do you guys think? This will be a 1/4 mile race at the track.

        that rustang is probably 2 second slower than yours. Minimum. Those 5.0's were running high 15's, 16s I think.

          I thought the 3800 V6 f-bodies were supposed to be the tough competition for a Mustang GT of that vintage.

            I wasn't sure....I know how my car feels on the street, and while I haven't driven his car, I have ridden with him driving his car and mine. Now with those drag radials, he doesn't spin but about a car length on the street. I felt like I'd get him, but I just wanted some opinions.

              HaHaHa!!! That's great stuff. My thoughts exactly. You should totally own any 5.0 Mustang with minimal bolt ons. I used to have a 1994 GT, it was sloooooowwww.

                Even if he dead hooks out of the hole, you will still run him down. Those 5.0's were straight dogs. I took a head/smallcam/bolt on 5.0 to beat my car by a few inches. He also had 3.73 gears too. But the aftermarket fo those things are huge. So watch out if he plans on putting any money into that thing.

                  I forgot something....he does have 3.73 gears......how much of a difference will that make?

                    i would put my life savings on your car (if you dont miss a gear or something) even with the 3.73 gears.

                      5.0=p.o.s
                      lt1=like 80 more horsepower

                      5.0 rustangs are crap you pretty much gotta supercharge them to beat a stock lt1.
                      I would like to say this also. My best friends dad runs a ford dealership and he loves his fords and even he says that 5.0's are crap. He says that they are some of the worse engines that ford put out.

                      One more thing and then i will shut up. One of my bosses has an 02 gt (well its his wifes) The only camaro he's riddin in was his cousins 94z. He says this,"the gt is zippy but its no camaro by a long shot" Thats comparing a 02 to a 94. So if a lt1 will outrun a 4.6 from 02 then i would think it would kill a 5.0 from 93 or 94, whatever model his is.

                        My 85 would run low 14s. He is probably about the same. I had 3.55 gears but I had a FMS cam. You should be about .5 seconds faster in the quarter.

                          a 94 5.0 with a catback, cai and gears will run low 14's? I bought the wrong car. If those little mods knocked off 2-2.5 seconds, I def. got the wrong car.

                            with that many miles he isn't getting a time close to that. I have seen 4.6L 5 speed mustangs with that body style that run high 15's low 16's, with at least a catback.
