My AFS replicas are basically identical with regard to the way the spokes fit to the rim... no difference at all. Same width "lip." The extra 1.5" is simply added to the back side of the wheel, and the hub face is move in a corresponding amount, resulting in the holes for the lugs and the center cap being much deeper inside the center of the 11" wide wheel than they are on the 9.5" wide wheel.
I think you can see from these pictures that the lip is the same (ignore the studs... that is one of the drawbacks of running track wheels that require 3" studs):
