A guy in another forum I'm in has an 04. He runs a 14 flat. He's a pretty good driver too. Not sure what options he has on his, but I know it's bone stock.

GonneVille, I don't care what kind of suspesnion the car has. FWD cars with power will produce a ton of torque steer and will HOP like crazy. Good luck getting good traction with it.

Like I always say. It might be fast.... But at the end of the day, you still own a neon.

I have to say (with embarassment) that I raced one stock vs. stock and had my butt handed to me. We both went at it out of the hole and I held him off for about 100 ft. I owned him when the light went green, I cut a hard hooking 60'. I held him off to the top of first gear and then it happened. He just drove past me. Nothing I could do except watch. They have a decent midrange. One of the most embarassing moments in my automotive life. If only I had a few mods, I'm sure that my stupid Accord could have kept pace.

Not a lot of those cars around here at all (albany, NY). A couple and they don't bother me. Mostly ricers do with fart cans. I think laughing at them is the most effective. How bad is it when a guy laughs at you basically saying "your not worth the gas, we both know the outcome". Then again all the tough guys come out with those cars most the time when i'm in my Jeep. They must smell that i have a WS6 at home and pick on my jeep to get at me. haha, who knows.

I dunno...I guess a 14 flat fwd 4-cyl car is cute, seeing as 10 years ago, that was unheard of (stock of course)...but, unfortunately, most of these guys base their reality on what they read in mags, see in movies or hear about in urban legends.

The closest I had to a race with one of these things was some cat that rolled up on me when I first got my T/A last year. He pulled up, revved a little, 'pulled off', slowed down, taunting me. I let him have it...just a little from 2nd to third and when he finally caught up, after I braked of course, he just gave me a thumbs up and left me alone.

Yes, we may be faster, but you gotta watch out though. With just a manual boost controller these cars can give a stock f-body a run. If youre not careful, they'll eat your peanut butter and jelly. My dodge omni (2.2 turbo) has surprised quite a few V-8 powered muscle cars ( I try not to pick on the f-body bros). It'll run 103 mph in the quarter and thats fast enough to walk a stock LT1 and keep up with slower LS1's. The neon is real similiar - not hard to mod to go fast.

I'm not talking directly to you, Casey... but I felt like your comment could be applied to some of the things that our very own members have said in this thread as well...

This car just isn't that slow guys... Is it a Neon? Yes. ....... Is it lame? In my opinion, yes......... BUT... is it slow? The answer is no.

Not to stop there either, but since it's built for forced induction, it's pretty easy to up the boost and make faster.

There are plenty of them comfortably in the 12s around here... several would hand me my butt. Stock for stock, an LS1 f-body should comfortably beat it, but it wouldn't be a walk in the park. A stock LT1 should beat it too, but one false move could leave it looking at some Neon tail lights...

I don't like the car, but you guys oughta know there are several out there that would be more than willing - AND ABLE - to feed you a slice of humble pie.

I agree with jay and n2olt4bird, those neons are surprisingly quick. Stock vs. stock we do take them, but it is very easy for those things to embaress some of us. I've ran with one before, this was with all my current mods other than my loudmouth, and we were dead even for quite a while until I'd say about 75, then i pulled (but it sounded like he shifted a tad too early IMO).

I will agree though that most of those people on other forums only know how to talk out of their @$$, but the fact remains that it is a somewhat respectable car stock (not looks wise), and a very respectable car with the boost upped.

I'd still rather drive a mid 13 second F-body over a 12 second neon any day of the week though

I dont care how fast it is, it's a neon. In my mind, that makes it a total POS.

I could make a Ford Fiesta run fast, but would I want to drive it every day? No..

The car itself sucks. So they put a quick drivetrain in it, does that change the fact the car sucks? no.

That is what is so cool about the F-body. The platform is awsome. It feels great to sit in, the exterior appearance is very aggresive and sleak. It handles great and sits low. Even a base-model f-body is fun to drive. I judge a platform by looking at the base model.

What is a base neon? You can polish a turd, but at the end of the day, you still have a turd.

Things you will never hear: "Oh, please let me drive the neon!!" "That guys neon is the sweetest car I've seen" "When I get older I hope I can buy a fully restored Neon"

                        Get the picture?

I am with you guys, I would much rather drive a 13 sec F-bod than a 12 sec Neon. However, my buddy has a slightly modded one and I will not run him yet. I have a few things planned for mine then it is "On like Donkey Kong".
You have to respect the power of those cars, bottom line.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up and totally worn out, loudly proclaiming......WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!

No matter how you look at it, the overall handling of a high power front driver is simply terrible. When the wheels responsible for turning are also powering the car, whenever you add high HP to that you get trouble. I speak with experience in that subject.
