The C5 is far from anything that resembles cr*p. The suspension geometry and engineering is vastly superior to my f-body. It weighs about 500lbs less then my f-body, and the build quality is far greater then my f-body. The basic C5 is one of the best handling cars on the road bone stock which includes many of the exotics. Now, it has the same LS1 motor (sort of) as the f-body so it gives the illusion that the f-body will hang with it especially with the new SS and Firehawk models with the 1LE suspension upgrades, but that is where it ends. There is a lot that we can do to the f-body to make it quick and all out fast in the quarter mile. However, I plan to, at some point, buy all adjustable tubular suspension components as well as the K-member and A-arms from BMR. After these upgrades, my f-body MAY hang with the stock C5 on a road course. With the Vortech supercharger and other motor mods it will definitely be faster, but not better. Actually, I even prefer my C4s on a course to my f-body. The C5 is just simply a better designed and a better built vehicle. The only time, to my recollection, that the f-body was close in performance was the late 60s ZL1 Camaro and the late 70s Pontiacs with the W72 400 in '77-'79 and the WS6 suspension in '79. However, the build quality of these was suspect (I have one in it original state).

I think it also makes a difference with knowing your vehicle in comparison to another. When I drove a LS1 f-body for the first time, I liked my LT1 '97 much better. My car even felt as though it was quicker.

Actually, I sold my '85 Vette with 42,000 miles to buy my '97 f-body, and when I took possession of the '97, I felt as though I was driving a truck in comparison. It is all about perception.

I'll admit, I didn't read everyone's posts but I do want to comment.

"To Each Their Own". Buy what you like and love what you bought. I've owned quite a few cars in my life and can honestly say that my C5 is the best car I have ever owned. It is fast, refined, handles awesome, brakes awesome, is very confortable and is so well balanced. I don't want to get out of the car when I get to the office. I love the car that much.

It all comes down to personal preference. The Fbody may be YOUR car. That is fine, don't let anyone else tell you different. I don't live my life to please others, I do it for me. I've never bought a car for anyone to enjoy but myself and THAT will never change.

I know that a lot of people live in the 1/4 world and don't really care for other features about a car. There is nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of personal preference.

I raced my stock 02 Z06 against my ex-buddies 03 Viper SRT-10 and handed him his "you know what" and he is in complete denial. hahaha We even had a Viper owner, an SS owner and a Lotus Twin turbo owner following us and he still denies it. haha Does this make his car less of a car? Nope! Does it bother him? Yes! Some people buy their cars for their own reasons and some buy it to be seen in. Guess which one I am?

When I sold two cars because of my divorce, I sold my Viper, not my Z06. I honestly believe that it is a better car. I paid only $6000 more for my viper than I did my Z06 so it wasn't a matter of money, it was a matter of what car I wanted to keep. Bye bye Viper.

I love my 2000 Formula. Everytime I leave work I get a big smile on my face when I see the shiny black car and know that I get to drive it. I'm even sure to park it in a spot where I can see it from my building. I bought it when it was two years old. It only had 17000 miles on it but I bought it a couple of months after 911 and was able to get a really good deal on it because GM had come out with 0% financing and used cars weren't selling. I'm definately not a rich man (E6 in the military) so an Fbody really fits me.

Although I love my car I would trade it in a second for a nice C5 if the prices were the same. I would actually like to keep the Formula and turn it into a drag car, have a Z06 for a cruising car, and have a Z71 for my daily driver.

To be honest though, unless I was really well off there is no way I would pay what they are asking for a new Corvette. 40 to 50 thousand for a car just sounds insane to me. Due to the used car market still being so bad there are starting to be some really good deals on C5s. I bet that once the C6s come out I may be able to afford a C5.

          Just rambling,
          Chris

Hmmm....To be honest, if I had the chance, I would think twice before trading for a C5....

You'll laugh, but one of the things I like about my Camaro is the versitility....Yeah, you read right...I said...Versitility!! I've moved 7 times in the past 5 years and believe me, a Corvette would just not cut it in the hauling department.

Of course I'd love one for a 2nd car! When the C6 comes out the C5 may become one good buy!
