I have a 1975 firebird. I was wondering what would be a good style of engine to drop into it. Also if changing it from an automatic to a standard would be a good thing.

What are your intentions with this car? Do you want a nice weekend cruiser, daily driver, quarter mile beast? It all depends on what you want. A 454 would be delicious for a drag racing car but not very practical for any other purpose. I know at least one person on the boards will suggest a Buick turbo 3.8, not going to mention names (cough cough Steve! cough cough). I love my manual tranny and i don't know if i'd ever want another auto but everyone is different. I'm a newbie to the automotive world so i can only make suggestions based off the basic knowledge that i have. There are quite a few veterans on this board though so i'm sure they'll be able to help you better than i can.
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
            SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
            SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

Its a good combination of power and economy, so back off man!! lol j/k
Of course, you could always keep in all Pontiac and drop in a pumped-up 455...that would be awesome too.

Sorry sir, i don't want any trouble! lol j/k You're right though. It is an awesome set up. My friend loves his 85 GN and that's before they were really monsters. The only thing i'd rather have than the 3.8 turbo is a B16 with a 100 shot of naaawwwzzz lol

HAHAHA lol. A nice 400 or 455 would be cool, or a new LS2 or LS7 would definitely be a sleeper.

With a classic like that, I'd try to stay as close to the original as possible. There aren't too many of those left anymore.

thanks for all your replies. I really would like to keep to the original, I have a 350 in right know but I thought there was another style that they put into it stock from the factory. I would like a nice street racer
