I have a 1975 firebird. I was wondering what would be a good style of engine to drop into it. Also if changing it from an automatic to a standard would be a good thing.

What are your intentions with this car? Do you want a nice weekend cruiser, daily driver, quarter mile beast? It all depends on what you want. A 454 would be delicious for a drag racing car but not very practical for any other purpose. I know at least one person on the boards will suggest a Buick turbo 3.8, not going to mention names (cough cough Steve! cough cough). I love my manual tranny and i don't know if i'd ever want another auto but everyone is different. I'm a newbie to the automotive world so i can only make suggestions based off the basic knowledge that i have. With a classic like that, I'd try to stay as close to the original as possible. There aren't too many of those left anymore.
