I hear some people P&M'ing about the fact the leaked pictures show a retro design. Here are my thoughts on that:

The Camaro has historically progressed into a sleeker more modern looking car. This makes sense when you consider the market it appealed to was routinely younger people in their early twenties and late teens.

That market is pretty much gone, except for the few young enthusiasts left. There is no longer a huge group of people in that age range looking to buy base model Camaros. Those people are now stuck in the import craze. Macho is totally out of style with that age group.

So, who will the new Camaro appeal to? More of a middle aged market segment I would guess. And now looking at that market segment, what kind of car would they like to see? Retro.

I do like the new design in the leaked pictures, but believe me, I would much rather see a progression of the 4th gen. Something more exotic looking. I was born in 73 and grew up with 2nd and 3rd gens all around me. I really have no connection to the first gen cars.

Assuming it is RWD, sits my butt on the floor with my legs out in front of me and feels like a gocart I will like the retro Camaro, not because it is retro, but because it drives great, looks cool and is a Camaro.

^^I agree Tracy. I DO hope they implement more of a continuation from the 4th Gen. I think GM has a good start though from those pics. I like the driver's side front end of the two.

I wonder why the front bumper is split like that?

I love the car. LS6 or LS2, T56, RWD. Sign me up.
LS15 Power! Another LSx engine coming soon.

Since it's in the beginning stages and what looks to be a clay model, I'm sure they are just playing with the idea of two different front ends. I like the driver's side of the two.

You know, even some of the GM bigwigs have spoken and proclaimed that these pics were leaked not exactly to their liking. I know better . GM is smart enough to know that even those who have dissenting opinions of the initial design are still going to talk about the car. This creates a buzz, and buzzes create sales...pure and simple. GM know exactly what they are doing and I don't blame them.

I think as long as GM nails the design on the 5th Gen Camaro, sales should be great.

Oh, it's real allright. But nobody knows how long ago these were done. Could be years or months. The real concept is in January. Watch the boards on January 9.

If you want a good book to read..."All Corvettes Are Red". It's an inside look at C5 design and engineering history. They went through NUMEROUS design ideas. This is not a finished product.

lol sorry i didnt realize they were on other sites, the ones that were posted here had them taken down so i did not know they were still available, but for a concept i dont think its bad at all, sort of follows the trend in design we've been seeing with the other muscle cars coming out today.
