That simple". He's been in the country for ten years with some form of work program, learned English at a local college, now he's a manager who makes a decent salary and owns two homes. This is an immigrant who came into the country without knowing a word of English. How is it that in ten years he was able to afford not only one home, but two? He started off making what any other grocery store clerk makes and moved up. It's not just that he owns two homes (he rents one of them out) but he lives a life of luxury as well. He has a big screen TV, one of those plasma screen ones or whatever they are, surround sound system, a brand new, fully loaded Nissan Murano, a brand new Nissan Pathfinder which is also fully loaded, he's able to support his "wife" and two children and he still loves to laugh and brag to me about how much he makes. The man is rude to customers, doesn't do anything to help anyone and somehow he became a manager. I'd love to know how this happened. I was born and raised in this country, I've been working since I'm 15 and I'll consider myself lucky if I'm able to afford a used Civic from the mid 90's to use as a daily driver in the winter. Something is horribly wrong here.
No offence NightRAge but this sounds like Complaining. He Busted His a$$ and deserves what he has. Like my father when he first came into this coutry. U say that u started working at 15? Dude i gave up my summers and winters since i was 10 working at the shop with my dad. Helping out. And u know what i do have that Civic. So. No Complaints. I love life. People that work right deserve the best. My father came here with nothing and busted his butt and raised 5 great kids. My brother (AmericanZ28)put himself through school which in itself is something being the first person in our family to go to college. Ur boss is where he is at b/c he has he right stuff to do the job.
Its a very touchy subject. Goes both ways. I never supported the Walk outs and all that crap. I was damn greatful for my education. Yet its like the movie. "Day without a Mexican" who knows.

First you say it's nearly impossible. Then you say it takes 5 years.

Big difference between impossible and requiring commitment. God forbid we make sure prospective citizens actually want to be here by making them earn their keep.

I agree with everything you said up until "it goes both ways". After your father's experience, and your personal life... I would think that would give you all the more motivation to support legal immigrants in this country. The people who work their tails off. The people learned English. The people who became honest, hard-working Americans. These illegals who believe they should enjoy the same rights and lifestyle that you do without earning or doing anything that you've done should nauseate you. It does me.

ConElite, I think what Tom's trying to point out is the guy has no reason to be walking out on this. His manager worked hard to get what he has, so there's no reason for him to be getting upset over something that isn't about him.

Anyways, I was talking with my g/f, who's also Hispanic, last night when she brought something to my attention. This may have been said already, but people are using Hispanic rights as the cover for this. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!! This has nothing to do with Hispanic rights whatsoever, yet people are using that as a way to get what they want. How low do people have to stoop to screw others over? All these people want is the rights and priveleges that come with American citizenship without the responsibility. Translation -> LAZY!! I'm glad to see many families still applying for their citizenship though, and think they deserve it for going through the rigmarole. Kudos to your family and you guys, ConElite and AmericanZ28. Kudos to all the people that get their citizenship. I don't believe we should shut off the borders from everyone else, but those who wish to come here need to file for citizenship. That's all there is to it.

I think Nightrage's point was his attitude. I don't give a damn how hard someone works, if their attitude stinks then they don't deserve anything.

You see, that's what you'd think. Fact of the matter is, our back room is overstocked with merchandise because he orders way too many things that we do not sell, he's rude to customers, doesn't help them in any way and most of the time, he sits up in the manager's office with the the little Salvadorian girl that works in the produce department (She "services" him while they're alone upstairs if you get what I mean. The man cheats on his wife while he's on the clock at work just to give you an idea as to what kind of person and manager he is). He's been working in food stores for the past 10 years. Not with the company that currently employs us. I think I may have stated that he's been in the company for the pat 10 years which would have been a mistake on my part. I have to do his job sometimes, and most of the time when I try to help a customer, I have to go to one of the other managers to be able to get stuff done as he fights me tooth and nail for some odd reason. Someone was looking for something that we didn't have. It was advertised in our flyer. We're supposed to honor whatever is advertised. Here's how our conversation went-

Him- "Tell her to get a rain check"
Me- "We don't carry the item that she wants in the size that she wants. Can't we just let her substitute by getting two of that item (I think it was a certain size bag of dog food) in a smaller size so that it adds up to the size she wants?"
Him- "Screw her. Let her get a rain check"
Me- "Gus, we don't carry that damn size and we're never going to. It doesn't matter if she has a rain check if we don't have the stuff she wants. What then?"
Him- "Then let her keep coming back until she gets sick of coming back."

I called a manager who's in a higher position than he is and explained the situation. Needless to say, the woman was able to substitute and get what she came for which is the way things are supposed to be done. This is his approach to everything. If you have to call in sick to work, the guy cuts your hours. He's worthless. We work in a very messed up company. The people that deserve to be made managers aren't even made full time workers. There's one guy that's been with the company for much longer than my manager has. He's probably the hardest worker that we have. After all of the thing that he does for the company, including staying after he punched out just to make sure that his work is done flawlessly, he's not even full time. He stays after his shift and does work that he's not even being paid to do just so that he gets everything done the right way. He gets nothing. At the same time, we've had total strangers come in and apply and get management positions in the company. These are people that have no clue what the hell they're doing or how to run a department, yet they're still employed. Our store manager for example. She's had over a hundred union meetings with employees that hate her guts, our inventory lists always come back showing that we've lost astronomical amounts of money somehow (last year alone we lost $500,000) and she's still the head honcho at our store.

Though it seemed like a rant, that was all related information. This guy isn't where he is because he busts his butt, he's there because our company is run by half wits. Call me jealous if you want. I'll admit it. I'm extremely jealous of his position. I'd love to sit upstairs with my girlfriend while other people do my work and still get paid tons of money. It's more that I'm infuriated. I'll admit that I'm not manager material. Read my posts. It's obvious just in the way that I speak and write that I'm not exactly a brain surgeon. I know this. I'm not the person that I think should be in his position though. I'm angry because hard working people that would actually get the job done the right way are missing out because some low-life already occupies the position.

Totally agree. Like I have said, my wife and I have been going through getting her immigration taken care of for the last year and a half or so. We have kind of gone slow at it, but that is because we have been doing it with (almost) no outside help. There are organizations that will help applicants with the process, even ones that will do it for no charge. I know that it is more than just filing out paperwork. It is digging up ALOT of information about yourself. It is basically baring your soul, on paper, to a nameless, faceless person who will decide whether or not you are going to be allowed to live here. It is jumping through hoop after hoop, , submitting paperwork, , paying fees, , and then some more. But like Jay said, it is basically a trial by fire to sort out the people who really want it from those who just want to come here and work.
Conelite, you and your family are a true definition of real IMMIGRANTS. Ya'll came here and worked hard and made a life for yourselves without taking advantage of the government. You learned the language and adapted to the culture, and seemingly didn't expect the culture to adapt to you. You seem to be fairly patriotic. But if you are truly patriotic, and if you have any pride in your heart about what you have accomplished since coming here, then like Jay said, the illegals coming here and making no effort to adapt, and expecting rights freely that you and your family fought for, should make you sick. I'm not sure what the movie you referenced is about, but too many people are turning this into a Hispanics versus Whites type of thing. That isn't it at all. This is an American versus foreign criminals thing. It is a fight against a cancer that is invading this country unchecked and slowly, but ever more quickly, spreading thoughout and taking over and changing too many important aspects of this country that make it what it is.
It is endangering our national identity. And it isn't just hispanics. It is any illegal immigrant, or even legal ones who come here and and refuse to let go of the country they left. Political correctness has given us Latin-Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, etc. Many with different flags and languages that they refuse to let go of. I say once you are here and get your citizenship, you are AMERICAN, PERIOD. Your allegiances reside here. If not, get your priorities straight or get lost. [Edit] Be proud of where you came from, but don't put your former county or it's culture ahead of the U.S. or the culture here. [End edit ] We need more patriotism in this country like we had right after 9/11. We need to get back to the way we were 50 or so years ago, a melting pot....but by the very definition of a melting pot, a SINGLE, united entity that has been made from many. If you don't want to be american, fine, go on your merry way. All I know is, I love this country, I love the great state of Texas, and I hate to see it getting handed back over, pitifully, to a group of people that shouldn't be here to begin with. It sickens me.

I agree with you on this, but there's one point I would like to make.

I'm German, Spanish and Basque. I'm damn proud to be German, Spanish and Basque. I have no reason to be ashamed of my family roots. But, on the same hand, I'm not a citizen of any of those countries. I'm an American. I love this country and I'll stand for it till the day I die, even if I'm defending it. People should be proud of their roots, of where their families came from. Just as they should be proud to be Americans.

I agree with you there, Steve. I should have made that a bit clearer. When I say that people should let go of their former countries, I mean by allegiance, mainly. Be proud of where you come from, but but don't put your former country, or it's culture ahead of the U.S. or the culture here. I didn't mean any offense.

Oh taken my friend . But I have seen some peope who speak those words and pretty much disrespect other nations and cultures simply because they're different (nobody on here though). But that's a seperate issue entirle .

Now this is what an American is supposed to sound like! Couldn't agree more with you. I might not come across as the most patriotic person in the country, but my grandmother definitely made sure that I understood how lucky I am to be here. I might get frustrated over certain problems in this country, but I don't take anything for granted. I'm growing more and more patriotic with time. I love this land!

It does me.
Yeah Man. My father worked like crazy and Bought a house and always supported our family. My brother and I as well as all my little sisters were all born here. My Father out of I believe 11 kids was the only one that made it to America. Just an idea as to How hard some of us (Mexican's) work. He dropped out of school in the 3rd grade yet was still able to have everything he has. Now we own a $500,000+ house with a brand new Fully Loaded Tahoe. He HAs his Silverado Yet he still finds the time to Teach me and My Brother (being the oldest and Boys) how to work for our things. We both pay rent. Me and my brother pay for our parents cells and all that and its great. They both gained the citizenship I Believe over ten years ago. My father does not speak english fluently nor does my mom but they manage. Most of my Fam that does not have citizenship have a visa or something along those lines, but the reason im against these law is b/c of things like i heard today, They set up a sting Op. that was in place to catch immigrants.
So i dont know. Weird. To much to think about. Eh.
