  • Blah!!

I am gonna die if I don't get my car pinted soon..Chris my lovely boyfriend swapped out my Vette wheels/tires to my WS6 wheels/tires cause well I like burn-outs :-D anyways he scratched paint off AGH!!!!!!The paint is already nasty looking because people dont know how to take care of anything..I was gonna have it painted as soon as I got it but well I moved out onto my own and those plans got erased. Every person around that I know would do a decent jobwants like 2,000 to paint it. I dont want to get a crappy Macco job on it :-(...sorry just had to vent a lil

Ok, so, in all seriousness, how did he scratch the car changing the wheels? I can't say I've done it before, so I'm kinda clueless on how you could scratch it as your installing them.

I've never scratched the car while rotating the tires....smacked myself in the jaw pretty good once! But never a scratch!

That's a southern pronunciation for paint........You could also use pant instead of pint and be correct too............y'all.

I don't think PINTING is allowed on this site.

Probably scratched it with the tire iron. I almost did that once.

Tire iron - Yecch. Breaker bar & speed handle off. Speed handle & torque wrench back on.

Just make sure you don't impact wrench them on.....that is what the "professional" installers do

I was glad to see when Discount Tire started making their techs only use torque wrenches to the final tighten on the lug nuts.

Lots of shops have 1/2" impact wrenches that can put out over 500 ft/lb of torque. That can severely warp a brake rotor.

Kev, they could use the torque limiting extensions with the impact guns, but I never see them do that. I always have to torque my wheels after I get tires done by a shop. For the TA, though, I just bring the wheels down to the shop in another car. I don't trust ANY SHOP FOR ANY REASON with the TA.

Hey - I can always count on you to fix my posts Actually, I hadn't been using an impactor to remove the wheels off my TA because the socket wells on the ZR1 wheels are liable to be dinged by the socket flailing around on the impact wrench as the wheel comes loose. I recently got a new set of polymer coated inside-and-out lug nut sockets from harbor freight, so those are safe to use, but I don't rotate the tires on the TA anyway, because I can't. I only bolt on the drag radials for the track. I can't get me no traction anyways, especially with my street tires.

I can't even imagine some knob scratching a car's paint just rotating tires, though. Fir3bird Chick, honey, you could do better than that...
