From what I understand, the term "hybrid" has dual application in the biological world. It means an interbreeding of animals or plants from 2 different non-specific taxonomical classifications, or the interbreeding of 2 animals or plants from within the same taxonomical classification.
Meaning the term hybrid does not exclusively specify the two animals in question be of a particularly different species or even the same species.
Under this premise, liger is indeed a hybrid, just like wolfdogs are hybrids....GauSSian is correct.
