Cars don't make a snob, that characteristic trait has to be within that person to begin with.

i disagree with that. all it takes is for somebody to end up with a nice expensive car and you have instant snob. i guess it could have always been in there for some people, but the car brings it out.

i'm not saying all people with nice cars are like that, but quite a few act like they're above the rest of us...

viper owners are pretty damn cocky to as you mentioned. some are nice though, as you seem to be. we have a local guy that owns a company called RT fence in the next town over. he has 2 vipers, one of the older original style, and one of the newer GTS style. he used to drive them up to our local A&W restraunt for cruise night. i didn't even know the guy and he was very nice to me, even let me sit in his viper. on the other hand, the guy that actually owns A&W, and has a c4 vette... major prick.

No Offence MunSon but that was one of the most ignorant things I have heard. There are people that have Money like crazy, and are the coolest people i know. One of my co-workers, Loaded like crazy and we hang out all the time. He's an old school hot-rod guy and knows a lot of people all around the world. Once he invited me to go eat with some Mag. editors from Austrailia, but were awesome comepletely down to earth. Had no idea they were loaded until I noticed they tipped the waitress at hooters $1000. See as you said, People are snobs from the get-goo. Not b/c they have nice cas.

I have to agree with Norm here...

It's the person, not the car. Sure... Obtaining an expensive car can give that person "justification" for acting like they are better than you... But it's always there to begin with.

If becoming a snob only took aquiring a material item... That person was always a snob. They just didn't know it yet.

I saw a major difference in the way I'm treated since selling the T/A and driving the Acura. People just assume I'm an elitist who looks down on certain brands. I guess that's the tag given to TL and RL drivers. They are surprised when I find a lot of interest in their cars.

What's even funnier is that an "expensive car" to some might be luxury to others.

If you own a nice F-Body, someone who can only afford an old beat up used Hyundai might consider you a snob because you looked down on their car.

Just be happy for what you have and be happy for others that have what they have and let the rest land where it may.

If someone is a snob, that is thier problem and their loss.

Let me throw a twist in this conversation. There are a couple of guys that have nice exotic cars around here. Two 360 modenas, a couple of Ferraris and a Diablo. One day we are all out cruising and my buddy sees one of the 360s. He goes up and tries him and low and behold, he beats the guy. Granted the guy missed second but that isn't the point here. After beating the guy, my buddy came back all stoked that he just beat a $150,000 exotic. I told him, "I don't want to rain on your parade, but remember, he's still driving home in his car and you in yours. It's not like he can't afford 10 of what you are driving."

I guess my point is that some times the guys in the higher end cars seem cocky because they get tired of getting challenged by every Tom, Dick, and Harry. I know that I've shrugged off a lot of guys on the streets because I don't like to race in traffic and I really don't have anything to prove. Not to mention, I'm just in a lowly vette, not an exotic.

And another twist from my perspective

Living here in Sebring right next to the racetrack has given me a unique opportunity to meet people involved in motorsports. I also founded a Corvette Club and had to deal with all the nightmares associated with that whole ordeal. The bottom line is that there are buttheads involved in every type of organization, club or group of owners in general. Poor behavior and ego problems are not exclusive to any one age group or ownership group, money cannot buy class or social respect. There are people into the automotive hobby because they are motorheads, many get into it just because they think it's cool and are relatively clueless to the mechanics. One has to be extremely patient when dealing with other people, it's the real challenge of life.

It helps to have a real sense of humor.

My wife and I were driving up I85 in her BMW Sunday evening when we saw a Mustang pass us and pull up beside a C5. I looked at my wife and said look he is trying to get the Vette to race him. I heard the Mustang drop it down a gear but the Vette wouldn't bite. Traffic was thick too.

Actually It's funny that you say that because I have seen it from the inside. I've had Vette owners come up to me expecting me to act some way that I am not. I start talking to them about the nuts and bolts in the car and they don't have a clue. I bought mine because of the design of it not because of it's social status. I bought it because I wanted something that came from the factory the right way that I didn't have to add sub frame connectors because it has a full frame and bigger brakes, bigger wheels, bla bla bla. I wanted some luxury items like automatic air, HUD, chromatic mirrors, etc. Anyway, now people that don't have Vette's treat me like I am some snob. I waved at a guy driving a WS6 Trans Am today and he just looked at me. I don't fit in anywhere now. I guess that's why I still hang out here. You guys are real normal people. Hey I like cars. All kinds.

Well said, this is exactly the situation I see myself getting into. I'm a DIY guy, I get my hands dirty and do all my own work. I can see allot of Corvette snobs looking at me strangely.

It's kind of like the old saying about the clothes not making the man. I guess you could turn that around and insert car instead.

There are all sorts of things that make people think they are better than someone else. My personal choice is not to associate with people like that. Material things don't create or destroy character and anyone that thinks they do is sadly mistaken.

Good luck on your vette search, might own one one day myself, but I assure you, I'll still be the same old dorky self.

heres my twist

one weekend hanging out at marcus, i was there with a group of mustang owners(when i still had my bird) and one of em has a 03 cobra, 700hp yada yada. completely down to eather, even tho he was a diehard ford guy he always gave me props on my bird. this new guy came down to marcus one day, in a 02 SS maro, turbo/head/cam etc. at frist he was cool, then he became the snob saying that all cobras are junk and nothing can touch him, long story short, i told him to go hang wit the ricers, we're mature over here
