How about one that was originally built for gramma and grandpa but has been modified for junior?

Any time........ any place........ except in the twisties. I'll take it easy on the goat. We wouldn't want it to grow up with an inferiority complex.

On a side note....... had a C6 get on it next to me in traffic last night. I have to say the car looks great, but the exhaust note didn't sound too pleasing. It's the first one I've heard open it up and it sounded kinda thin and raspy. I can't say that I cared for it.

You tell 'em Joe . Call my baby an old-person car, huh Ken? lol

Yeah, the exhaust would be the first thing on the C6 to get changed if I had one. I only wonder how it would sound with a more open system.

In the right hands, these can easily be low 13 second cars stock. I got mine down to 13.25 before the mods started. Others have run 13.1 completely bone stock. Most that can drive half way decent run 13.5 or so. I think you'll find that is right in the hunt with any other LS1 F-Body and quite a bit better than an LT1 car. Average vs average.

Before you go blah, blah, blah...my stock 96 WS6 ran 13.50 the only time I had it to the track that way back in 96. I either had a quick one or a little better driving than others That was one of the fastest times around for a bone stock LT1 car, wasn't the fastest but one of. Most weren't that fast.

Just thought I'd throw that out

                    hmmm

I saw an 04 GTO A4 at the track saturday that only ran a 14.2... It didn't seem right to me, considering my Caprice (only gofast mods are exhaust and k&n) ran a 14.6 at 94.7 mph and weighed in at 4400 lbs... I thought it musta been driver error but he ran three times and that was his best.

I say auto like it's a bad thing, because IMO, it is a bad thing. The M6 is better for a street car that isn't running crazy times. If I were on a track running 10's, I'd opt for the auto. Until then... The 6 spd is better. In a lotta ways.

Strictly a matter of opinion. Six speeds are more fun, automatics win races. Been that way for many years, savy racers know this. Still, people like to play with shifters and clutches. Many times the manufacturer quoted better acceleration times for the auto vs. the stick. Ditto for independant testors too. The stick shift does get the nod for better gas mileage, is preferred on a road course and is mandatory for extended top speed runs.

That's kinda what I was going to say. The stick is best for road course type racing, and the auto is better for drag. IMO the stick is just all around more fun to drive. However, if you don't like shifting, or drive in stop-and-go traffic alot, then the auto is better. It's all in the preference. But.....true sports cars should have sticks.

You get a better launch in an auto. That's about the only advantage I see to driving one.

Better launch due to torque multiplication on launch, never missing a shift, More forgiving on rest of driveline parts, both hands can stay on the wheel for better control when things get squirrey, your right hand can rest on your girlfriend's knee instead of the shifter. ( that last one is a biggie! ) Seriously, there are lots of reasons. I've had stick shift cars off and on for 25 years and for a nice cruise, the auto wins every time. For the dragstrip, the auto wins too. Main benefits of stick shifts are the ability to launch at the desired rpm of the driver, gear choice is also up to the driver, better mileage because of the double overdrive, it's the only trans that will live in extended top speed runs like the silver state classic and engine braking.

So really, it is up to the owner to choose their preferance. The only thing that can be considered bad is that automatics don't live well in extended top speed runs.
