  • Heading out to pick up my new ride....

Sold the Cadillac this week, so I'm heading across the state to pick up my new toy....... a 93 Z28 6 speed. A buddy of mine cut me a real good deal on this. His dad works at a dealer and this was a new car trade. Of course it needs the typical tlc, but that's right up my alley. Not to mention a warehouse full of parts that already fit. Looks like I found a use for the 10 spoke chrome wheels, SLP intake, the Borla (once Fred sends me his mufflex) and a few other goodies too. The only bummer is no t-tops. oh well, it might make a handy drag car.

T tops didn't come on any 93's did they? Never big on the hardtops personally, like you. Either way, still a sweet ride. Post some pics of that bad boy when you bring it home

Nope, 93s only came in verts and hardtops if I remember correctly. Good to see another 93 get a good owner...I'm kinda partial myself lol . Hey Joe, what color is she? Got any pics? Kinda curious if it has all the orig. yellow 93 int. parts and labeling (the shifter plate in mine was out of a 94-96). Can't wait to see the new addition

no verts in 93. They were introduced in 94.

The car is Black with charcoal? interior. It does have the yellow interior labeling, the car is bone stock from air cleaner to exhaust tips. The only non-stock item that I can find is a JVC headunit. the car needs some things..... I noticed the cruse control is not working and neither is the high beam switch. Everything else works. It does have the dreaded intake manifold oil leak so I'll need to take care of that asap. It will also need a little body work on the passenger rear quarter..... previous light damage wasn't fixed to my standards so eventually that will get redone too. 6 speeds are cool.

              Ahhhh, kinda like this one...

That's exactly like mine. Hey, I noticed sometimes the Cruise doesn't work, usually while the EGR is acting up. Might give that a shot. I didn't know the 93s were susceptable to the intake leak. And yes, gotta love the 6-spd. What gears are in her, 2.73s or 3.23s?

Interesting.... it threw an egr code on the way home. I'll have to tear into all this and find out what is up. And yeah, it looks just like yours right down to the salad shooters. I don't know Steve..... we both have black 93s, a GN....

                  Gettin' scary.

Not getting a jeep though. At least not right away.

I just may pull the Z28 emblems, replace them with some base camaro emblems and go hunting.

Unless the SLP Cold Air intake (the tube is shorter from pipe to the bellows) is for a 93 it might not work since the 93 was a Speed Density car. Also the 6speed tranny has different gear ratios (does it have the G92 option) The car should have 3.23's in it. AND you can swap out the Prom in the PCM for tuning as well,

Thats a good starting point for a car though. Congrats on the new car. And hardtops are cool....

I checked the option codes and it has the G80 posi and GU2 2.73 gear. i kinda suspected that as at 65 it was only running 1500 rpm. As odd as it sounds, I am happy with the 2.73 gear. My sole purpose with this car was to be able to have a V8 f-body that got me reasonable highway mileage. At 65, the T/A tachs about 2350-2400 rpm with 3.73s...... feels like it needs one more gear in the trans. it hauls bananas though. This Z pulled pretty good, the highway cruising at such low rpms is cool. At 55 mph I almost had to shift back into 5th... it was taching about 1100 rpm. With a good state of tune and freeflow exhaust, I'm hoping to get 27-28 mpg highway. That is just good enough to keep me happy and hopefully out of the honda on longer trips.

The car has a power driver's seat, rear defrost, power windows, locks, mirrors, JVC CD head unit, foglamps, cruise, fixed antenna (got to change that), hardtop, intermittant wipers, a/c. I still have to closely examine all the option codes but that should be a pretty close rundown. The only part that I thought was odd is a 115 mph speedo. Not that I have plans on taking it up to high speed, but I thought V8s had a higher speedo because of the speed rated tires? I must admit, I am better with the 94 and later models...... at least I'm familiar with the 93 LT-1 as that was in my 40th Anniversary Vette.

I am pretty sure that the 93 had some options on tires, and the non-Z rated ones got the low speedo. Was a carry over from the 3rd gen that had that kind of thing. No speed rated tires, no 150mph. Insurance, gotta love it!! Congrats on the new add to the barn. With all the crap going on at GM these days, I fear that the only way for our beloved cars to stay alive is for folks like us that take care of them.
