I have experience with it done both ways and both have their pros and cons. Their is NO distinct advantage to either one. It basically just boils down to personal preference. Both can be done in the same amount of time, but the "out the top" mehtod is much less of a headache.
I'm not suggesting anything. By saying that watching someone who knows what there doing drop it out the bottom I mean someone whos done a few before and can do it quick. I dropped mine out the bottom this summer and I'm sure if you would have been watching me you wouldn't have thought it was pretty because it was the first time I've ever done it. Looking back now I could probably do it in about half the time just because I know what to do now. I just thought it was a lot easier being able to take everything off my car after the engine was out and not having to remove the fans and radiator and other miscalaneous things. I'm not suggesting that you don't know what your doing I've used your advice on many occasions.

I just don't want jerrysta to be persuaded to feel as if taking it out from the top was in some way wrong or inefficient. It is completely a preference thing.

BTW, you explain to me how this is easier than pulling it from the top?? Some people don't pull the master cylinder, ABS, and/or the compressor, but if your going to go through the trouble to remove the compressor to eliminate having to evacuate and refill the 134a, why not just pull from the top in the first place?

If I made it sound like anyone was wrong for taking it out the top I'm sorry that was not my intent and in no way am I saying that one way is better than the other.

fastTA, that guy in the link did more than was necessary to drop the motor from the bottom and when I did it I used a lift which seemed to make it much easier I was able to just lift the car up and pick up the back of the tranny and wheel it out from underneath.

I think you started it when you said "I just cannot see why people would go through all of the ignorant trouble" for dropping it out the bottom. That was kind of inflammatory.

While out the top is your preference and "less of a headache" for you, it may not be for someone else.

Wasn't inflammatory in the least. While perceiving my use of the term ignorant as being "inflammatory may be your preference, it may not be for someone else.

Let's keep this thread on topic.

You didn't have to go off topic just to insult me.

Hold up guys, you both bring a lot to this board and a fight over whether its better to bring an engine out the bottom or the top isn't worth it lets just let this thread die or keep it on topic.

When you did yours from the bottom, did you have to remove the swaybar? Some guys over on other boards have claimed they were able to get the motor to clear it, but it seemed a bit of a stretch to me. Let me know.

I've stayed out of this thread, because as soon as I saw the word "ignorant" I knew excactly where it was going to go.

I removed the two bolts on each side that held the swaybar to the frame but left it connected to the suspension. You either have to remove it from the suspension or the frame if not it wouldn't let the engine drop. Heres a pic its not the best quality but you can see on the sway bar where it bolts to the frame and has to be removed there or from the suspension I really don't know how it would be possible to not remove one or the other.

That's what I was thinking. Any more pics of when it was coming out?

One thing I would add is that I basically have my entire front end taken apart so the radiator was removed. That gave me all the clearnace we needed in the front. The radiator was not hard to take out but I would imagine that you would not necessarily want to remove it if you did not have to.

I found the out the top method pretty easy and I am probably one of the most novice wrenches on the message board. But if someone else finds it easier the other way it's no problem. As long as we keep modifying our TA's it's all good with me.

What did you anchor the chains too on the engine to jerk the engine out.
