  • Rear Suspension Noise

My 2000 Camaro's rear has recently started to squeak when going over speed bumps, rough roads, etc. Is it time to replace the rear shocks? I currently have 72,000 miles on the original ones. Or could it be spring noise which I assume there isn't a cure to? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Just put your parking brake on, crawl under the rear of the car with a flashlight and repeatedly push up on the chassis - you can locate the squeek easily that way.

I located a bad rear control arm bushing that was squeeking when I went over bumps - it was driving me loco.

Make sure its not the rear hatch first. Mine was squeaking going over bumps etc yesterday and it ended up just being some ice in the gap between the hatch and the roof.

Also check the sway bar end-links. My Z sounded like an old man groaning every time I went over a bump. Not any more

          Rear Suspension Noise

Thanks everyone. I will check those items. I know for sure it's not the hatch but will go under to check out things.

That happened to me too. I popped the hatch, and it WAS an old man groaning - I told him to get lost . . . . . .

I'm gonna guess it's your rear hatch shocks. Every camaro does that. Mine squeak if you run over a bug, so it is pretty much a constant squeak. Turn up the radio and it drowns it out.

                        Update

Well I never did find what the noise was until it got really annoying and louder as well. It sounded like my rear end was about to fall off. Anyway, it ended up being the control arms. Both sets of bushings were extremely worn out. I replaced them with aftermarket ones made of polyurethane to last longer. What a difference it made. The rear end is solid again.
