I know kids like that...losers. Lets just hope TransAm98 have teh convictions to something with his life and not depend on his folks.

I was a worker growing up...I wanted something, I cut the grass or found a job. I guess that's why I'm so well off now, got my own company and doing well...all thanks to my folks. Mean and strict as hell, but they knew what was good for me and I thank them so much for it...cause I'm a cleanaholic, don't smoke, drink, or even club...yes, I'm boring and love my car too much...but I owe my abilities to clean, cook, and care for myself all to my folks.

Who made us the judges of this kid's life or his parents? I wish him the best... I know how I am going to raise my child, and honestly, it is nobody's business. Can't we just be happy for him, and encourage him on his decision to quite smoking without judging him or his parents? What do we know about his home, and how can we make an evaluation on that? If posting our opinion means judging somebody else, it probably shouldn't be posted. It is this kind of stuff that pushes me into not participating on this board if it continues. The family atmosphere is what I liked about this board in the past and why I rarely ever went to any other board, but it is changing and not for the better.

Ok lets take a reality check here. The kid is 17, been smoking for 5 years, and drives a faster, nicer car than either of my parents have ever owned in their entire life. And he just got his license, what, last week? Has it even been a week yet?

If he's grown up enough to handle all that, I think he can take a wee bit of flaming on a messageboard on the internet.

Especially when he makes whole threads that start out saying "I've been smoking since my pre-pubescent childhood, and now my daddy promised to give me $1500 so i decided to stop, please cheer me on!". Thats just asking to get our "opinions" on the matter.

          About the car....

...right now there are several 1998 Trans Ams on eBay. The cheapest one is at $3500 right now... the most expensive is around $10K.

Now, several parents buy their kids cars... and $3 to $10K is not an outlandish price to pay for it.

I think it is a little odd that they dropped a 350 HP Corvette motor in to the hands of a 17-year-old, yes... but it's also pretty cool from his side of things.

          About the smoking...

... I do also find it disturbing that his dad is going to "reward" him for quitting something he shouldn't have been doing anyways. I am also disapointed that his parents have let this go on for 5 years...

I do agree with all of the parenting values that you all have talked about...

HOWEVER, this thread is way hi-jacked from its original topic...

Whenever someone makes the decision to quit smoking they deserve congratulations and encouragement...

          Good luck, Boss.

Perhaps he can, but he doesn't have to tolerate it on here. Those rules were agreed upon by each user in order to post. What I cannot believe is that there are people on this board that have been here for years and never stepped out of line, yet a few of late that have been given second chances are flirting with getting banned again.

This thread is now locked while the rest of the moderators confer as to how put an end to this latest tendency of flaming others.

This is exactly why the matter will be dealth with, the board will not go the way of other boards. This board will continue to be free from this, there is no other option.
