i give my parents my love and respect. they are very good parents we always settle our differences without yelling or fighting and theyre always been there for me.
i can honestly say i respect my parents and am proud to call myself their son
i try to live up to their wishes, i do good at work and am a straight a student and i dont do any drugs and just quit smoking. not everyones parents can afford to buy their children what mine can buy me and im very lucky for it, i would love to raise and treat my children the same way in the future.

That's great man. Glad to hear it. See, people are wrong to assume that you are a spoiled brat. Spoiled brat = kid who gets everything he wants and doesn't appreciate it. My best friend that I grew up with, whom I love and respect, was brought up much the same way you are. His dad came from a poor family, so when he became fairly wealthy from his construction company, he bought Chris and his sister new cars and helped them with their first houses and all that kind of stuff. Chris was like you, appreciative. The only negative thing I can see that came of it is that he got new cars and new things so often that I guess he got used to it and now he is trying to climb his way out from under a butt load of credit card debt. I guess he got the lesson of careful spending too late in life, where I got it really early since I had to work for everything.Originally posted by TrAnS Am 98

You are doing alright, man. Don't let these guys get to you. Us older guys just get a little afraid for a person's physical and moral wellbeing when they are given so much so early. Congrats on quitting smoking, keep it up. And enjoy the car I WISH I HAD!!

I completely agree that having a car as a teenager is a Privelage, not a right.Originally posted by TrAnS Am 98
im a jr. broker at east coast capital corp. thanks to my father who hired me and when i turn 18 ill be a fulltime broker
i cant make car payments because my car was paid off in full 12.5k
i pay my 120 a month cellphone bill and in 2 months ill start payin 100 a month for insurance and gas for my car i pay for by myself so not everythings handed down to me
You're very lucky that your parents bought you this car AND pay your insurance, and it looks like they pay for your gas, too...
You're also lucky that your father handed you a job. I'm working in a grocery store with shipping and recieving, lifting 50+lbs boxes for 8 hours a day. And I doubled up my high school classes to graduate in 3.5 years. And I paid for my cars, insurance, gas, etc.. Either way, I'm proud of what I've done..
I think the only thing that really offends me about what you say is that you claim that we're jealous of you.
I think I'm on the same page as purepwrta and TODD 2000 V6 CAMARO here.

just my .02
And you are still a few cents shy of a dollar. Another trolling example.

Why do you keep insisting that people are jelous of you? I think you should be jelous of him! Few people can make that kind of claim, including you! I too got my Z28 when I was 17, but I worked long and hard for it ever since I turned 16. The only help I got from my parents was my dads signature for the car loan. I put the $4K down, I made the payments, I payed the high insurance, I put the gas, I put the mods, and I maintained it! On top of that, I finished paying it a year ahead of time! It was a priceless experience going through that whole process, and I consider myself lucky to have had that opportunity. However, I dont gloat about it, especially not here, and I think thats a more credible accomplishment than yours. I think you should envy everyone else who didnt get a hand me down, because they are much more prestigious, and are often not given the proper credit.Originally posted by TrAnS Am 98

i dont see whats so great about paying for a car when your a teenager, seriously i dont see the big hoopla. as i see it i saved years of hard work and a big dent in my bank account
my car cost 12,500 and we got a thousand dollars off cause my dad paid in cash so i save that and the rate on the car for paying it off monthly.
i guess you guys just enjoy throwing thousands of dollars instead of saving it. your future wont be a very prosperous time if this continues.
so far ive saved 13,500 in car payments, god knows how much in insurance, and about 2g in mods for quitting smoking, i think thats pretty darn good for 17!!!

You didn't "save" any money. You just got that stuff handed to you. I'd call it a gift. My car is something that I EARNED, and something to show for all my hard work. You may have a huge bank account... congratulations. And "i guess you guys just enjoy throwing thousands of dollars instead of saving it. your future wont be a very prosperous time if this continues."
No offense, but you really just don't understand, and this little statement irked the crap out of me. Our cars are INVESTMENTS. We didn't just get them for free, we actually had to pay for them, and it teaches a valuable lesson that can't be learned until you DO it. You won't understand until you start buying your own stuff, so I'm done trying to "explain" it to you.
So the next time you're going to make a statement about how my future is going to suck, think again my friend. I've already begun to learn about financial management. I'm one step ahead of you.Working on the 80 Camaro Z28 ..

I didnt throw any money away, I invested it, and in turn, I have a car to show for it! How are you THROWING MONEY AWAY when you have the things to show for it? What do you have to show for the thousands YOU THREW AWAY on smokes? Or did your dad buy those for you too? Are you gonna tell me im jelous of your now shorter life span? I know your lungs are not going to be prosperous.... Furthermore, how are you saving yourself money when the money wasnt even yours to begin with? I think you need to take one hard look at yourself. Im not trying to flame you or anything, I just think you have a bit of growing up to do. Your dad isnt always going to be there for you, which is why you need to learn how to cope on your own. I dont see that happening for you anytime in the near future. And based on your attitude, I dont think you want to cope on your own....Originally posted by TrAnS Am 98

hmm lets figure this out
i didnt "save" money
if i paid for my car myself if be out 13,500
but i got it as a pregraduation present soo i am not out 13,500
id call that saving money, i dunno what u define it is
it looks like i manage my money a lot better then most, it seems a lot of people throw it at cars
mines still sitting comfortably in the bank
for me to do something with it
i spend MY money that i EARNED on a lotta stuff that i want, sure i wanted the car but i also NEEDED it, it was a necesity, i had to get a car so i can go to work and make money and my father isnt going to let his only son drive around in a crappy car so basicaly this car had to be purchased.
nice right

Very well put again guyz. this kid stll doesnt understnad anything about money managment, finacal well being, and cash flow. My hours just got cut in half for the next to weeks, and that is really going to affect pretty much everything about my life right no. Im not going to be able to drive my car hard during this time due to gas prices ($2.22/gallon), car payments and insurance are going to take up much of the money, not to mention my trans is getting fixed and that 2,000 bucks. And I am buggetting right now to make up for it, meaning that I can buy anything realy cuz I'll need the extra $$ for the next 3-4 weeks or so. But anyways, yes, we are all 1 step ahead of you, my friend.1996 Trans Am:T-tops,graphite leather,16" chrome T/A rims, Nitto's, Descreened MAF, Morosso CAI, hypertech, flowtech cut out, 1LE elbow, Silver BMR tubular SFC's, 160 thermo, limo tint, harwood ws6 hood, !side molding, Stage 2 trans.
