Opinions on my interior, please!

honestly that is plastic you painted it warps in sunlight that paint will most likely chip and peel months from now
be glad its not permanent like a tattoo

Oh ****!!! That is definitely different like someone got a little crazy with a model car and the Testors. Do you think this will harm the resale value? I know that I would not purchase a car with the interior painted. If I did, I would offer a substantially lower amount to offset the damage. I would be far more inclined to go with two tone leather seats and leave the interior panels in their stock molded color; I have seen a few f-bodys like that. However, I am not too big on painting the interior's plastic panels. As long as you enjoy it, that is all that counts. I prefer the stock interior and I think paint is meant for the exterior finish. Some of the older cars with metal dashes looked incredible with it painted to match the exterior color of the car. I guess I am just getting old because I don't understand this.

True, there is a flexible interior dye paint that is meant for plastic panels and vinyl. Unless you use this type of paint, the sun and flexing will fade and crack the paint on the plastic parts. On plastic, you can get away with using a flex agent in an automotive finish, but it will still crack with time.

I am not a fan of painted interiors...I'm actually not a big fan of wild exteriors either.

My cousin totally riced up his Fiero doing this... His Fiero is Black, and he painted almost the entire interior yellow. He even went as far as to lay colored elmers glue (all different colors like blue. green, red, yellow) around all the interior seams.... lame.. LAME

If the interior of american cars weren't so lame then it woudln't be such an issue. Go drive around in newer import cars and look how nice and modern the dash is....then get in an american car and see crapily planed interiors with garbage plastic pieces boring color schemes and nasty GM green backlighting. The TA is probably the most impressive american car interior I've seen so far yet it leaves somethign to be desired.

I've done mine but in mnay ways I wish I did'nt and I'm thinking about changing to back to the stock look by replacing parts...

Any of the re-designed for 2000+ American cars are receiving the "modern" interior. I think it is kinda unfair to compare previous "American" designs with new "Import" designs. Lets keep apples to apples. When the 4th gen was introduced in '93, it was right in step and in a lot of ways better then the imports with regard to interior design and material especially in its sports car class and price range. It is just that fashion trends have changed since this car's debut eleven years ago. It is purely subjective whether the new trends are better then the way it was; they will definitely drive up the cost with the aluminum and such. The cookie cutter approach that drives the "boring" colors helps keep costs down. There is give and take.

IMO the interiors of current cars coming out now are still cheesy looking. Even classier stuff like the Chrystler 300 interior is set up cool but its made out of plasticy looking garbage...thats just my .02 though...Like I said I like my T/A...but theres something dress up missing from the stock look...

I used a paint designed to work with plastic so I do not see any problems steming from that. As a matter of fact, the panels in the back have been painted for a couple of months now with no fading or peeling to speak of.

I wanted to add some personality to the interior of this car, that was my reason for doing it. While may of you may like the black on gray color of the interiors, I equated it to sitting in a dank cave.

And please don't call me a ricer, my plate says U S MUSLE. I am always ready to smack down a ricer.

I figured adding some color to the car would bring strong reactions, so I am not suprised.

As far as interiors as a rule go, you can compare the last ten years of any domestic VS import and the imports interiors are far nicer. Better materials and a little bit of color.

I figured if I added color someone would call me a ricer, but hey guys, many paint companies are coming out with paints meant for interiors to satisfy the demand, so I can't be the only one.

Also, the car is a 95 if anyone noticed. It's book is about three grand. I am not going to even talk about resale. Cars aren't investments, and I plan on keeping mine. This is my first TA and i worked my a** off to get it. I'm not going to sell it for a measely few grand. Better to just hang on to it.

An update......

The color has been on since June 03, and it's now Jan 26th. Doesn't look a shade faded, nor is there a peel or crack anywhere.

I have had to touch it up a couple of times when I kicked the lower part of the door getting out, but that's it.

I took my time and didn't do the job like some hillbilly who wanted it done in a single weekend. It was done right.

By the way, I admit I was nervous when I did this as far as how I would like it in 6 months time....guess what....I still love it!

BTW for the "older" guys who said they didn't understand why someone would do this....it's all to make my car unique. You guys did the same thing back in the day, but back then you could afford different things than now. You guys are also used to these deathly plain interiors. Myself, I sold cars for a while, so I've been in a lot of Hondas BMW's and other imports and if you think even in the same year that the interiors are comparable you are lying to yourself. Domestics have been behind in that category for years and still are, but they are better.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions...variety is the spice of life and I'm glad we aren't all the same.

Everything devalues a car....like driving it off the lot. It's a '95...in the big scheme of things worth pretty much nothing....so I did what I liked with it.

Yes, I did ask for opinions, but speaking specificlly on value I think it is a moot point on a car this old. You can't take nothing from nothing, you know what I mean.
