  • Fram Air Hog.... NOOOOOOOOO

Guys I decided to get rid of the paper filter in my Z. Went with the fram. Lost atleast 15 to 25 Hp. The motor was a dog. Wouldn't even chirp the tires shifting to second. (auto tranny) Went back to the paper and an smoking the tires again!!

Hmmmmmmmm.......I have had the Air Hog on mine for quite awhile. I haven't had the car dynoed so I cant say anything about HP loss or gain. I can't really feel any difference compared to the paper filter but then again I thought minor changes like this couldn't be detected thru the "Butt Dyno" anyway.

15 - 25HP loss????? Sounds like you forgot to take the Air Hog out of the box before you installed it.

Yup I said 15 to 25 hp. The motor was sad. Put the paper back in and it was back to normal. Was like the motor had a govenor on it!!

I would be interested in reading the sensors with a scanner during this episode. Perhaps the computer didn't have any opportunity to relearn a new set of airflow variables. A scanner would show more.

                        On a side note....

I find it very interesting that your IP address is exactly the same as another user on this board.

The odds of two people having the same IP on the same message board are incredibly remote.

If we assume 20HP loss on a 300HP engine, that's a 6.67% loss, or the equivalent of 28"H2O loss across the filter...... seems "odd".

                          Maybe you over-oiled it.
