Oh I forgot to mention. In our town you have to have licenses for dogs and CATS if they go outside.

So if a tag is on the critter you can find out who it belongs to. If not you can consider it a stray.

I agree totally that if the owners really cared for their pets, they would not let them roam free. I learned that at a very early age. When I was 6, we lived in a rural area of Charleston where a new subdivision was starting. My Grandparents who actually owned the house, got me an American Water Spaniel puppy. Well, they kept the dog outside and let it roam the property. When the dog was about 2, we get a knock on the door. Someone in the neighborhood has hit the dog with car, the dog took off and was nowhere to be found. Another neighbor put him in our direction suggesting that it could be our dog. After searching for half the night, we found the dog with a torn up leg, a broken hip and in shock. After numerous vet bills and care, the dog recovered but had arthritis for his remaining years. That night left an impression on me that still lives to this day. Responsible pet owners keep their pets out of harms way by not letting them roam the neighborhood.

You guys are definitely more friendly than I am. The first cat I caught on the Ram Air met the wrong end of a BB gun. One pump, shot him in the butt, no more cat on the Ram Air. My dog got one, but that's because the cat was stupid enough to jump the fence and get in there with him.

Finding cat poop on your $16,000 car makes you mighty pissed off, and finding scratches on the roof of your Mom's new Maxima makes you REALLY pissed off. I'm sorry, but if you cannot keep your animals on your property than they are no longer "your" animals. We have laws about that down here too, and if an animal comes on your property, tagged or not, it's your decision as to what to do with it.

You think I'm bad? In my buddies neighborhood, they walk outside with a shotgun to handle the problem

I like the trap idea, personally. Around here though, we have dogs, cats, raccoons, armadillos, rabbits, squirrels, all kinds of stuff, and they pretty much eat anything. So I'd catch just about everything but the nuisance cats

DON'T let your animals run loose and there won't be any problems. I cannot stand animal owners who have cats and let them run the neighborhood or who have dogs that they let run free. There are exceptions like when an animal escapes from a back yard but otherwise if the animal is out running around its owner should be nearby. Not only do these animals often times become a nuisance to neighbors but they are also in danger of being injured by automobiles or running in front of cars and causing a wreck. First I would have physically taken the cat to the neighbor and informed them that it was on my property. Second I would have also taken the cat to the shelter. Hopefully it will end up at a better home where the owner will actually keep it inside.

My other pet peve is people who buy a dog and the dog spends its entire life in the backyard. It never gets taken on walks, never gets to come inside as a true member of the family, and the only time the dog gets attention is when the owner comes outside and yells at the dog to stop barking. I have two neighbors who treat there dogs like this. It seems that they bought the dogs because they were cute puppies and now that they realize the dogs require alot of work they just through them out in the back yard.

I personally have two dogs. I know where the dogs are at at all times. They spend the majority of their life inside playing with my family and friends, taking walks every night (on a leash), playing out in the backyard, and at night they sleep under our bed.

pretty ballsy move Joe, the only thing that would make it better would be a note in the neighbors mailbox asking for ransom and a warning for next time you see the cat out of the house.

I did this to a neighbor of mine a while back who was flying his american flag upside down on his flagpole during the height of the last war in Iraq. I found it truly repulsive, so I camo'd up with a few buddies of mine and snuck into his yard. I had scouts across the street and an earpiece and everything (real Navy SEALS like). I crawled in real slow and lowered the flag right in front of his motion detector light (without setting it off). I wrote up a nice letter for him and put it in his box with the flag folded. I haven't seen it out since.

            Nieghbors...... great fun.

Most pet adoption agencies tell the adopter to keep the cat indoors because the AVERAGE outdoor cat only lives 2 years and whereas the indoor cats might live 15 years or so. Although I once had an outdoor cat that lived for 12 or 13 years - he was lucky and had a frostbit leg that had to be chopped off. Outdoor cats also get in engine compartments to stay warm during winter
and get mangled when someone starts the car... These days my cats stay indoors.

Relocating wild animals is controversial and a temporary fix. You are creating a void that other coons will fill. The relocated coons will be in unfriendly territory and have a hard time if they survive at all. I used to do it with squirrels. The rangers hate for you to relocate wildlife, but they never seem to offer solutions. Loss of habitat is one big problem and people feed their animals outdoors and the smell of food cooking and garbage brings the wild animals in search of food and shelter. It's a tough problem that's only going to get wrose. Gotta learn to share.

Once I hit a McDonalds to pick up some dinner on the way to my friends house to return a compressor I had borrowed. I left the food in the car with the windows down (Phoenix in the summer) to return the compressor, and when I got back to the car, some stray cat was chowing down on my fries. It was so funny that I didn't even get mad. But cat footprints are oily and can hurt the finish on a car even if they are declawed.

Can't say I blame you for what you did, but I would damn sure make sure the cat was going to a 'no-kill' shelter or other agency.

When I lived in Phoenix, our favorite burrito stand got shut down due to all the cats in the neighborhood dissapearing over the last couple years and someone found about 400 cat heads in the garbage, so they called the board of health, and the rest, as they say, is history...

To this day, whenever I look at my cats, I think of how good those burritos were. Red chile, green chile - no one ever asked about the meat...

The town that I live in recently passed a law stating that home owners could trap any cats that came on their lawn. Home owners are instructed to take the animals to the SPCA once trapped, and the owner of the animal must pay $50 to get it back. If I had the money to buy a trap, I would have trapped many by now. I am a true animal lover and own three cats of my own. They never leave they house unless they are on a leash, and really only one of them likes to go outside. However there are many cats in my neigborhood that run free constantly. I have lost count of the scratches on my car and the number of times my wheels have been sprayed and reek of cat pee. If the owners aren't responsible enough to keep their cats away from others' property, then I say that they can either pay the $50 or let a more responsible person adopt the animal. Besides, I have seen so many dead cats on the road, or ones getting the crap kicked out of them by other cats or dogs that it is just safer for them to stay inside or in their owner's yard. I say good job, Joe!

I hate it when neighborhood cats get on my & my grandmothers cars!!! I've got the 02 35th LE & she's got my old 94 3.4L. Mine is red, hers is black, both show red mud quite nicely!! And I know which cats are doing it, there are two of them, a stray & the neighbors cat. Can't stand either one of them. When I see either in my driveway, I make no effort to slow down. I won't do one of those trap things, because my neighbor did that to my outside cat a few years ago. Caught my cat for NO REASON (my cat wasn't getting up on their car, wasn't eating their cats food, she'd just get on their porch from time to time because noone had lived next door for years, so it became part of her territory (they'd been there only a short while). I almost got arrested for destruction of state property the day Trouble was caught in one of those cages. Luckily I didn't have to pay to get Trouble out because my cousin knew the person over the HS in Asheboro (I live in Thomasville, a good 30-45 mins away from this place). Needless to say, Trouble stays either in our yard, or in the neighbor across the streets barn (mousing of course). The lady across the street doesn't mind.

I should get one of those traps tho, catch the neighbors cat & that stray, send both their sorry furry butts to the HS!
Sera & #2 (my kittens) are now being introduced to outside, and right now go no farther than our front porch steps.

Joe, I don't think what you did was wrong if you warned the owners time & time again & they're breaking community codes. If I decide to do that, I am not telling the neighbors because they didn't bother to tell me.

well i had a cat that kept comming by and getting on my car and truck both . I have an old 91 beater ford truck with almost 300,000 miles on it . I also have a 2000 candy apple red grand am . when i seen the cat on my truck i was a little upset but not to mad . when i found claw shapening marks in the bra on my car i got really really really really upset ... i found that if you use positive renforcement the cat wont come back . couple of good shots with a paintball gun is usually all the positive renforcement they need
